Onshore Cable Installation Engineer

Our client are currently recruiting for an Onshore Cable Installation Engineer to join their team on a contract basis

The East Anglia Hub project consist of three developments, these being EA1N, EA2 and EA3. Each project shall have onshore cabling and onshore substation facilities.
The Onshore Site Manager is a lead role in delivering the onshore construction elements for East Anglia Three Onshore Converter Station to project and company safety, quality, and environmental standards, whilst ensuring that the projects financial and programme targets are met. She/he will report to the Onshore Converter Station Package Manager.

The Onshore Works Manager will be responsible for supporting the Onshore Converter Station construction works with a focus on oversight of Principal Contractor activities to ensure compliance with processes and procedures and delivery of work in line with the required technical and quality parameters.
While focused on the Principal Contractor’s activities on site, the role holder will also support the onshore package manager with the planning, management and monitoring of the construction activities including aspects such as site mobilisation, safety coordination safety performance measurement and monitoring, leading the relevant site staff and auditing the delivery of the works to the agreed scope.

They will have a strong project management background with excellent inter-personal and communications skills. They will support the Client CDM duties onshore, whilst being a key contributor to works planning, coordination between contractors, packages and construction teams.

Key Tasks
• CDM, Clients Principal Contactor duties:
• Understand and comply with all relevant legislation with a particular focus on CDM and the compliance for the roles of Principal Contractor, Contractor, and Client.
• Functional activities, from the Client perspective, may include participating in safety leadership tours, incident management and reporting and Safety Observation reporting. Review of Principal Contractor pre-task planning documentation, including method statements & risk assessments to facilitate daily site checks to ensure activities are being carried out safely.
• Review and comment on Principal Contractor RAMS for site activities.
• Act as the Client site point of contact for the Onshore converter Station site.
• Lead a site management team to supervise contractors from the Principal Contractor perspective, plan and chair site meetings, complete safety, and environmental inspections.
• Reporting, including but not limited to collate and provide weekly and monthly reports.
• Support to management of Principal Contractor (Note: accountability for large main contracts is expected to be with Package Mangers).
• Coordination with -and support to- package managers for the planning and delivery of Site Works (by main contractors) to meet commercial conditions of contract including minimising delays and claims for variations.
• Leadership in the resolution of disputes on site.
• General
• Provide technical support and advice to the Client´s project team (i.e., internally).

Key Criteria
• Significant experience in managing onshore construction activities with specialism in construction works for onshore electrical transmission projects.
• Degree qualified in related engineering discipline.
• Affiliation to a Professional Body relevant to the responsibilities described.
• Knowledge of specification, design, maintenance, construction, and commissioning of either civil, electrical or overhead line and cable works.
• Experience in major UK onshore infrastructure construction projects.
• Safety trained for managing site construction works, e.g., 5-day CITB SMSTS or equivalent.
• Practical experience and knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations, in particular the role of the Principal Contractor and Contractor roles supported by practical experience.
• Fully proficient in Microsoft applications. Skilled in IT tools for interacting with colleagues based at other locations.
• Extensive experience in dealing with health and safety and environmental legislation associated with construction.
• High degree of competency in future planning.
• Proven experience in delivery of large packages/projects, including contract management, programme management, cost and risk control.
• Proactive People Manager, leader and motivator.
• Sound relationship management skills and confidence working with Senior Management.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and develop key project and business decisions.
• Excellent report writing, presentation skills and ability to summarize key parameters and drivers impacting the project and business.
• Ability to work, manage teams and manage decision making processes under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Sound planning and analysis skills with the ability to look forward and see / anticipate problems and thereafter plan and implements mitigating solutions to negate the effect of such problems.
• Problem solving – dealing with conflicting requirements
• High capacity for change and experience of leading others through change.
