Operations and Maintenance Engineer

Our client Scottish Power are currently recruiting for an Operations and Maintenance Engineer to join their team based in Glasgow on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for an experienced Engineer, preferably with a chemical background as well as someone who has experience of working within heavily regulated environments such as ATEX, DSEAR or COMAH sites. Job Purpose Statement
Working with the SP Green Hydrogen team, you’ll support the development and delivery plan for operation of Scotland’s first hydrogen production and distribution plants as part of the ScottishPower Green Hydrogen team part of the ScottishPower retail business.

In a fast-paced and emerging field, youll contribute to development of technical solutions that meet customer needs, considering multidisciplinary engineering design and operational requirements.

Assisting the Operations Manager, you will be developing and defining the operational strategy for the SP Green Hydrogen portfolio of Hydrogen plants. You will be involved in design decisions ensuring consideration of operational performance and requirements together with regulatory compliance, including HSE. You will ensure all plant design meets production and availability targets to meet customer demand and deliver engineering and asset management strategies to ensure the safe, efficient and compliant performance of the Hydrogen Portfolio.

Work together with the Engineering Team and Project delivery team to ensure site specific requirements are considered, create an operational readiness plan, and lead on operational readiness reviews to ensure delivery.

Feed into real time technical solutions and control system discussions to allow inter-operability of facilities where possible.

Accountability Statements
• Create Operational readiness plan for current projects considering strategic goals to define solutions and timescales.
• Participate in operational readiness reviews during the construction/commissioning life cycle of the plant.
• Create SOPs to ensure operational readiness plan and operational readiness reviews are documented appropriately in support of the plant safety case.
• Contribute to the technical asset management strategy for SP UK Hydrogen assets, in coordination with our Global Engineering Group, and drive inclusion of all requirements in wider business operating strategy
• Influence engineering issues affecting operational performance across the Hydrogen portfolio, in conjunction with the SP Engineering team.
• Lead development of all technical specifications developed across the SPERL’s Hydrogen business to deliver Hydrogen plant and Infrastructure Maintenance Contracts, Operational Asset Purchases, Design Modifications, Contractor lead technical solutions
• Ensure all projects comply with applicable internal management system requirements as well as external regulatory and legislative requirements.
• Develop relationships within the Hydrogen sector and out-with, to ensure that SP’s O&M and Iberdrola global team remain abreast of engineering best practice

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
• Degree educated in an Engineering discipline (or equivalent) coupled with operational and technical experience within a utility/generation environment.
• Experience working in plants that fall under ATEX / DSEAR / COMAH regulations.
• Demonstrable experience of development and implementation of long term engineering technical strategies
• Proven experience of proactively leading, directing, managing, motivating, developing, coaching and mentoring a team within an evolving environment.
• Proven ability to work through complex operational, technical / commercial conditions, formulate solutions, and make sound, well informed decisions. Committed to implementation through appropriate courses of action even in uncertain situations to achieve business objectives.
• Significant strategic and technical experience, with the ability to link this experience to both real-time and longer term strategic decision making, within a technical and legislation focused environment.
• Detailed knowledge, combined with extensive practical experience, of managing the ongoing development of operational/safety rules and procedures within heavily regulated operations.
• Ability to lead and adapt quickly to a rapidly changing working environment and demonstrate a positive leadership example in relation to change management
• Ability to work under pressure and deliver against challenging timescales, with autonomy and a high degree of personal commitment and resilience
• Experience across projects of varying sizes and capital values

Planning & Organising
• Must have extensive operational knowledge and the ability to think strategically whilst addressing short term goals.
• Must be able to develop long term business strategies to incorporate substantial business growth targets
• Ability to work effectively across a diverse range of projects.

Special Requirements (not mandatory)
o Flexibility to travel within the UK and internationally as required.
o Flexible approach to working hours as would be expected of a 365 days, 24/7 operational business.

Minimum Criteria (mandatory)
Criteria

o Must be degree educated in an engineering discipline (or equivalent), preferably Chemical engineering
o Significant demonstrable experience in operations / production management within a heavily regulated utility/generation environment
o Experience of ATEX / DSEAR / COMAH sites, including with Duty Holder experience.
o Experience of managing multi-disciplined engineering resources, or experience in leading a team of production personnel working shifts
o Strong ability to manage own performance with focus on delivery within a varied and challenging workload whilst producing high quality results
o Good understanding of Health and Safety Principles and their application in the Management of large scale industrial assets and associated activities
