Onshore Environmental Advisor

Scottish Power Renewables are looking for an Onshore Environmental Advisor to join them on a long term contract basis.

Role: Onshore Environmental Advisor
Business: Scottish Power Renewables - EA2 & EA3
Location: Ipswich, IP3 9BF
Duration: 12 month initial contract with renewal in line with the projects
Rate: Inside IR35, Umbrella and PAYE options available

Main Purpose of Job
You will have a key role supporting the Offshore Development Team to deliver environmental management and compliance as well as support consent compliance for the large-scale offshore wind project in the UK, during the pre-FID and Execution phase of works.

Key Responsibilities of the role are to provide environmental advisory support to the EA Hub Projects:

  • The main purpose of this role will be to act as EA3 Environmental Site Advisor for the EA Hub offshore wind farm project providing environmental support to the Project Team
  • This role will have responsibility to ensure compliance to environmental requirements to an effective level of environmental management for the onshore EA Hub project, meeting business requirements and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of environmental management practices on the project.
  • The overall aim is to mitigate the risk of non-compliance to consent and project requirements and to ensure
  • managing environmental risk to ALARP.

Key Tasks

  • Review and understand the scope of work, discuss with the Package Team/Construction Team and review the contract documents provided by the client.
  • Inform the project manager / environmental manager of any potential environmental risks and aspects.
  • Inform the Project Manager/ Environmental Manager of any environmental surveys / monitoring that are required for the project
  • Provide a scope of work for the surveys / monitoring to be carried out.
  • Liaise with the client to ensure all environmental consent conditions are being managed, inform the project team of the conditions.
  • Understand regulatory requirements NE/ EA and consult when required to ensure the appropriate consents and licences are being progressed.
  • Ensure the project team are aware of any licences and their conditions required for the project.
  • Provide support and advice to project based staff throughout construction period on compliance with the statutory environmental / client requirements.
  • Review the contractors’ documentation to ensure they have addressed the contract environmental requirements
  • Where required provide/review environmental risk assessments and method statements for particular activities.
  • Undertake regular focused site inspections and audits on key environmental aspects monitoring contractor performance.
  • Conduct joint site walkovers/inspections/audits with contractors’ and Environment Advisors’.
  • Ensure closure of inspections actions
  • Develop and communicate environmental awareness training including site inductions (on and off site)
  • Attend project progress and coordination meetings where required to provide environmental input and advice for upcoming activities.
  • Liaise with contractor Environmental Advisors on a regular basis and conduct joint site walkovers/inspections/audits
  • Provide toolbox talks for relevant environmental issues on site and brief the site staff
  • Review site inductions and deliver environmental site inductions, provide information to contractors regarding site specific environmental aspects.
  • Co-ordinate ecological requirements with qualified assigned ecological clerk of works
  • Develop any case studies or alerts relating to the key environmental aspects on the project

  • Daily Diary completion, report to Onshore Environmental Manager on a weekly basis and support the Project Environmental Manager as and when required

Key Criteria

  • Degree or higher qualification in an environmental related discipline
  • Valid CSCS card (or willing to obtain prior to starting in the role)
  • Strong experience in managing construction environmental works on linear projects
  • Experience in managing air quality / noise from construction works (monitoring and reporting)
  • Detailed understanding of 3rd party and land agreements, consent planning and/or discharge of conditions
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation related to construction
  • Full and Clean Driving Licence
  • Proven ability to lead and work in a team and contractors environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent personal organisation and time management skills.
  • High degree of self motivation with a flexible approach to work.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft office applications as a minimum.
