Morson is delighted to be working in partnership with a major player within the UK energy sector, driving the transition to cleaner energy sources. They’re the biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. They produce energy from wind, nuclear, and solar sources, aiming to reduce reliance on energy imports and prevent future price rises.

This is a new role within Corporate & Customers Supply Chain to support development and management of a new organisation structure. This is a rare opportunity to be involved in creating and shaping a team.

This will suit someone who thrives in an environment where they can be flexible, enjoy exploring different approaches and thinking on their feet. They will be confident in identifying third-party services, conducting contractual terms reviews and have responsibility for their own portfolio of contracts. A key aspect of this role will be the development and maintenance of the tactical procurement function within the wider Supply Chain team to deliver process optimisation and ensure compliance for the given area of spend.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting commercial negotiation, modelling of the benefits and maintaining high standard of governance adherence for. Previous experience of software purchasing and working in a fast-paced tactical environment is of an advantage.

The role will act as a subject matter expert for the business and will have a direct line management responsibility for Procurement Specialists to whom they will be providing a range of experienced guidance and support for their team’s personal and professional development.

The post will require occasional travel to attend project briefs and meetings.

Principal Accountabilities

This role will be responsible for managing own portfolio of suppliers/projects as well as a direct line management responsibility for several Specialists

Work with the identified key contacts, propose and obtain agreement for the optimum Supply Chain Strategy for their requirements in a timely and professional manner

Ensure that risks are understood and mitigated to an agreed level through effective contracts and development of appropriate professional relationships with our key suppliers and contractors

To undertake and review supplier market analysis for the categories under your control (including direct reports) to ensure that the risk to the business is identified, managed and communicated

Ensure that the supplier base is fully understood and that appropriate relationships are developed with our key suppliers to maximize relationship benefits

Ensure that the business support teams such as Legal and other stakeholders are involved and contributing to the delivery of the portfolio and manage the workflow to ensure that the relevant processes are carried out in a timely manner to meet the business expectations

Negotiate and obtain agreement to the optimum procurement strategy for the business, including identifying and leveraging group procurement synergies where practical

To generate and record obtained value and savings for the company by effective supply chain management

Ensure that third party suppliers and contractors both understand and work in alignment with our health, safety, environment and quality practices and standards

Ensure that suppliers deliver the expected goods and services to the required quality in a timely manner and at the agreed costs manage exceptions effectively and ensure mitigating actions are put in place and followed

Assist with the ongoing review of end to end procurement practices and procedures and ad hoc project work.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

Demonstrated success in the development and delivery of successful Supply Chain strategies and implementing contractual arrangements

Strong understanding of contract and commercial law and sound understanding of contractual terms and conditions

Strong procurement, contract management and risk management skills

Excellent negotiation skills, with experience in negotiating high value and complex multidiscipline contracts

Demonstrates success in planning complex projects

Demonstrated success in managing significant change to ensure maximizing value to the Business

Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate potential contractual risks in business context

Working knowledge of key SAP processes and transactions or willingness to develop these skills along with gaining good working knowledge of other key systems used by the team

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong leadership ability and collaborative style

Strong influencing and interpersonal skills, ability to change manage and work with Senior Management, advising at all levels as required

High degree of commercial acumen, being able to understand complex commercial issues, and drive complex commercial negotiations to conclusion
