Our client is currently seeking a skilled Accountant on a permanent basis. This full-time role will be based in Portsmouth working week is Monday to Friday.

This role offers a salary range of £32,000 - £35,000 per year (DOE) + benefits.

The Role:

As an Accountant, you will be a key point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders. You will work closely with managers to deliver timely reports and align with organisational goals. Your proficiency in accounting software and regulatory knowledge will ensure compliance with policies and legislative requirements. You will play a vital role in managing supplier relationships, overseeing subcontractors, and maintaining excellent client/customer relationships. Your ability to navigate complex financial landscapes with discretion and strict confidentiality will be crucial in upholding data protection and security requirements. You will also actively support the professional development of your team, providing guidance and mentoring for AAT Level 2 apprenticeships to contribute to the growth and development of future finance professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

▪ Ensure that the Sage 50 accounting system is kept up to date to provide accurate information to key stakeholders as per the required schedule.

▪ Provide quality assurance on all required monthly reports to the client (Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, Trial Balance, and Aged Debtors).

▪ Ensure compliance to the Mess Sage 50 Accounting procedures in full, and all aspects are delivered on time.

▪ Process the quarterly VAT return and forward to the authority for approval and onward submission.

▪ Process all information with discretion and strict confidentiality to comply with data protection and other security requirements.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential:

  • Recognised Accountancy qualification to Level 4 AAT.
  • Experience with accounting software.
  • Knowledge of Charities and VAT regulations.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Accurate data entry skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Customer service focused with a commitment to providing prompt and responsive service.
  • Ability to self-manage workload effectively to meet requirements.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Sage 50 V28.
  • Previous experience in a client-facing role.
  • Experience working within a military environment.
