We are seeking a Financial Accountant – Pensions & Payroll to join our finance team on a 6-month contract, reporting directly to the Head of Transactional Finance. This pivotal role supports the Pensions Secretary, as well as Payroll and Finance teams, by delivering high-quality financial reporting and insights.
You’ll play a key part in ensuring the integrity of our pension scheme and payroll accounting. It’s a great opportunity for a finance professional to demonstrate the real value that forward-thinking, proactive financial management can bring to the wider business.
Key Responsibilities of the Financial Accountant – Pensions & Payroll:
- Pensions Reporting & Accounting: Oversee financial accounting for both DB and DC pension schemes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission of reports.
- Payroll Financial Accounting: Accurately record payroll costs, reconcile key balance sheet accounts, and manage third-party payments including HMRC and benefits providers.
- Audit Support: Assist with audits for the SRM and NH Pension Schemes, PRMS, and Aviva Medical Trust.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the main point of contact for the Pensions Secretary, external auditors, investment houses, Aviva, and internal finance teams.
- Life Insurance Schemes: Manage and renew life insurance schemes and ensure accurate documentation.
- Documentation & Controls: Maintain policies and procedures to support improved internal controls and financial integrity.
- Team Leadership: Manage and develop one direct report, ensuring continuity and adequate cover during absences.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to wider projects and initiatives to enhance efficiency, reporting, and compliance.
Your Profile
- Part-qualified (ACA/ACCA) or QBE accountant
- Strong technical accounting skills, particularly in payroll and pensions
- Experienced in managing balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts
- Confident working with auditors, trustees, and senior stakeholders across the business
- Proactive, detail-focused, and adaptable to changing priorities
- Able to manage competing demands with a hands-on approach
- Experience with JD Edwards or similar financial systems desirable
