Mechanical Engineer - Review & Acceptance (Equipment)

Morson Talent are representing a leader within the UK Energy Sector who have a current requirement for a Mechanical Engineer – Equipment (x 2) to join their established, Joint Design Office (JDO) team. All work is associated with Europe’s largest construction/infrastructure Project in Somerset. Site based role with hybrid availability. Contract (renewable) position – Inside IR35.

The Joint Design Office
The Joint Design O?ce (JDO), has been created to reinforce site-based engineering. Its primary responsibility is to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A major bene?t of the JDO is the time/cost savings for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions enabling site staff to swiftly pursue their activities.

Broad Scope
• The Mechanical Engineers will contribute to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the Equipment scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.
• The roles will be focused on the Equipment discipline dealing with pumps, valves, heat exchangers and pressure equipment but will be interfaced with other disciplines/parties, such the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back office).

Typical Responsibilities
• Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the MEH and NSSS Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
• Providing adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
• Challenging design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
• Assisting with and co-ordinating support from other external organisations.
• Contributing to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
• Assessing technical risk and subsequently addressing this risk.
• Maintaining a strong relationship with the Responsible Designer)

Criteria
• Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Extensive experience in Equipment design, installation and/or commissioning.
• Experience applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry.
• In-depth knowledge of the construction / installation industry.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
• Experience in the understanding of welding engineering.
• Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
• Ability to work independently, be pro-active, report on and escalate relevant issues.
