  • Accountable for delivery of the assigned systems within Duty and Conventional Systems team’s scope of work.
  • Working with Process and Mechanical plant systems Engineers to translate high level requirements into a specification for Control and Instrumentation (C&I) systems.
  • Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components and systems to facilitate effective system design.
  • Define and implement robust process control strategies, ensuring system stability, efficiency, and safety across the power plant’s operational lifecycle.
  • Assess and substantiate that the design specification meets the requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance against international standards, such as IEC 61511, IEC 61513, IEC 61226 and IEC 61508.
  • Produce verification and validation plans and define test plans to demonstrate that the C&I system requirements have been satisfied.
  • Support the planning and implementation of policies and procedures related to the life cycle of C&I systems.
  • Ensure that optimum solutions are provided for the RR SMR Nuclear Power Plant by supporting the procurement, operations, and maintenance aspects of the equipment.
  • Contribute to the production of safety cases and provide support in liaising with regulators and independent nuclear safety assessors.
  • Ensure that quality is maintained throughout the SMR project lifecycle by undertaking appropriate technical reviews and providing the required C&I engineering inputs to the project technical review gates.
  • Discuss the C&I system design with external organisations including the nuclear safety regulator, potential customers, and suppliers.

In particular, expertise in one or more sub-disciplines i.e. control systems, protection systems and/or instrumentation is required for the role.
  • Strong experience in the application of process control and instrumentation systems design principles, including developing control strategies, selection of suitable instrumentation and C&I components, design for suitable deployment, tuning of control loops, and integrating process control systems with overall C&I systems. Knowledge and experience of designing over the early design phases of a typical design lifecycle.
  • Experience working with Turbine Island Process C&I and instrumentation systems will be an  advantage.
  • Knowledge, understanding and practical experience of applying relevant industry standards for systems important to safety (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 61226, IEC 61513, 61511). Knowledge, understanding and practical experience of applying relevant regulations to a wide-ranging C&I system.
  • Knowledge and experience of applying systems engineering methodologies including Model Based Systems Engineering to C&I systems.
