Steelworks Engineer - Review & Acceptance

Morson Talent are representing a leader within the UK Energy Sector who have a current requirement for a Steelworks Engineer to join their established team. All work is associated with Europe’s largest construction/infrastructure Project in Somerset. Site based role with hybrid availability. Contract (renewable) position – Inside IR35.

Broad Scope
• Working as part of the Joint Design Office (JDO) the Steelworks Engineer will review and accept the changes to the design raised by the site contractor and be responsible for managing interfaces between the construction contractors and the designers
• Ensure all design and construction changes are delivered on time to meet Construction need.
• Attend readiness reviews of Design Packages released for construction as and when required by design owners.
• Work closely with the Design teams, Contractor and Construction teams to maintain technical quality responses (content / consistency / comprehensiveness / accuracy), construction programme and construction safety.

Typical Accountabilities:
• The management/approval of design changes proposed by the contractor or designer through Request for Information, field Change Request or Non-Conformance Report.
• Supporting the JDO in the handover of Design Packages released for construction and initiating the delegated responsibilities through this process.
• Ensuring that processes comply with project quality procedures.
• Management of CDM aspects relating to the design changes during the construction period, including discharging the role of principle designer.
• Responsible for the nuclear safety acceptance of the design by carrying out surveillance on the design changes during construction.
• Safety case/golden thread: in the review and acceptance process, ensure the high-level safety case and the design have a clear golden thread to support operations.
• Manage the site change process responding to construction queries.
• Nuclear and Environmental categorization of site queries (Formation will be provided).
• Surveillance of drawings, models, and technical documentation.
• Chairing meetings with stakeholders.

Criteria
Essential
• BSc and/or MSc in Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
• Design process and design activities/Structural Drawings and Models Handling - preferably related to Nuclear Industry
• UK CDM regulations in a highly regulated industry.
• Knowledge of Steel design codes/Eurocodes, especially EC3.
• Design with hazard & accidental safety cases
• Delivery-oriented and ability to set action plans and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
• Self starter with natural problem solving ability
• Superior communication skills

Desirable
• Previous experience as design engineer.
• Working knowledge of construction change procedures.
• EC8 (seismic) knowledge
• Working in large-scale, multi-cultural industrial project, safety case architecture.
• Understanding and application of the Intelligent Customer Role.
• Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
• Understanding of Contract Management
• Commercial awareness with an understanding of the impact of change.
• Familiarity with safety case process and design substantiation
• Stakeholder management experience.
• Package management experience.
• SCI (Steel Construction Institute) Greenbook knowledge.
