Principal Highways Engineer - Slough
Morson Talent is recruiting on behalf of a leading design, engineering, and landscape architecture consultancy seeking a Principal Highways Engineer to join its dynamic highways team in Slough. This consultancy is renowned for its innovative, sustainable, and safe design solutions, earning international recognition and prestigious awards, including CIHT’s Employer of the Year in 2021.
Due to continued expansion, they are looking for a professionally accredited [IEng or CEng] and/or Chartered Engineer. This is a full-time, permanent position based in their Slough office.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Development and delivery of concept, preliminary, and detailed highway designs.
- Preparation of calculations, written reports, and checking of drawings.
- Providing technical guidance and leadership to junior colleagues.
- Development of project task budgets and programmes, ensuring delivery targets are met.
- Attending client meetings and liaising with clients and other stakeholders.
- Planning and undertaking site visits, inspections, and investigations as required.
- Taking an active role in the implementation of CDM duties on projects.
- Effective communication with the design team, clients, and contractors.
- Personal Attributes:
- Proven experience in successful operational delivery to Local Authority and private clients.
- Solid project management skills with a strong understanding of commercial project aspects.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and adept at problem-solving.
- Inspirational team leader and motivator.
- Excellent financial acumen in project cost control and estimates.
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and deliver on time.
- Strong communication skills at all levels with excellent oral, written, and numeracy skills.
- Good computer literacy, including experience with CAD, 3D modelling, and MS Project.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with highways design software.
- What We Are Looking For:
- At least 10 years of experience working in a design team environment.
- Degree in an engineering-based subject or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in civil engineering and working towards a Professional Qualification.
- Chartered Engineer and Member of a relevant professional institution (i.e., ICE or CIHT).
- Strong background in the application of DMRB design standards.
- Experience in line managing and providing technical oversight for delivery teams.
- Knowledge and experience of business development, including fee estimation and proposal preparation.
- Proficiency in design using 2D CAD and Civils 3D.
- Experience in financial management and managing multiple projects both technically and financially.
- Strong commercial and contractual understanding.
- Understanding of Health & Safety requirements and CDM duties.
