Deputy Security Controller

About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Deputy Security Controller to join a leading defence and manufacturing organisation based in Telford. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining and enhancing physical, personnel, and project security across the site, ensuring smooth business operations while upholding rigorous governance and compliance with UK Government (MoD) physical security standards.
You’ll work closely with various teams to manage security systems, support accreditation processes, and deliver clear communication and training to staff, helping maintain a secure and compliant workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Physical Security Management
Oversee and maintain physical security infrastructure, including access control, intruder alarms, and CCTV.
Manage user onboarding/offboarding processes, including ID and access cards.
Maintain guarding instructions and response plans to ensure swift security incident handling.
Security Accreditation & Compliance
Support and manage Facilities Security Certificate (FSC) and Industrial Personnel Security Assurance (IPSA) compliance.
Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aligned with government and internal security standards.
Personnel Security Support
Assist with national security vetting, clearance confirmations, and aftercare processes.
Contribute to IPSA evidence gathering and process improvements.
Security Awareness & Communication
Create and deliver engaging security awareness materials and campaigns.
Collaborate with IT security teams to reinforce key messaging and compliance efforts.
Traveller Security Support
Prepare travel security packs and brief staff ahead of overseas assignments.
Classified Material Management
Manage the secure handling, transfer, destruction, and reporting of classified materials.
Coordinate secure transport and courier services.
Project Security Support
Assist with Security Aspects Letters (SALs) and project security planning.
Provide security advice to internal teams and external partners.
Secure Area Management
Ensure secure areas comply with standards and are regularly inspected.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Experience in a security role within government or regulated commercial sectors.
Practical knowledge of physical security systems and technologies.
Familiarity with security accreditation processes such as FSC and IPSA.
Understanding of National Security Vetting procedures.
Experience supporting project security and handling classified materials.
Strong grasp of UK Government and industry security policies and standards.
Proven ability to conduct compliance audits and risk assessments.
Calm, pragmatic decision-maker with the ability to balance risk and operational needs.
Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Discretion and professionalism in managing sensitive information.
Armed Forces veterans at JNCO level or above are encouraged to apply but this is not essential.
