Job Purpose:

The Electrician plays a vital role within our organisation, responsible for conducting high-quality electrical engineering operations with efficiency and minimal wastage. As an experienced and skilled Electrician, you will ensure a safe working environment for all colleagues and maintain the functionality of our water assets, civils and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify potential issues and areas for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical malfunctions and identify the root causes of issues, both reactive and planned maintenance.
  • Carry out repairs on electrical systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • React promptly to emergency calls and resolve electrical issues to minimise downtime and maintain safety.
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the maintenance team and engineers from other disciplines to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve complex issues.
  • Maintain clear and open communication with stakeholders, including colleagues, supervisors, clients, and contractors, regarding maintenance activities, progress, and any potential issues.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to relevant health and safety regulations, industry standards, and legal requirements.
  • Follow scheduled maintenance plans to perform routine checks, servicing, and replacements to prevent breakdowns and prolong the lifespan of electrical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, replacements, and tests, to track the performance and condition of electrical systems over time.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of emergency response plans to effectively handle electrical emergencies and minimise risks to personnel and property.
  • Perform any other duties assigned, in line with the scope and seniority of the role.

Further Aspects of the Role:

  • Occasional work away from home, typically Monday—Friday with weekends at home.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in electrical engineering, technologies, and maintenance techniques through training and professional development activities.
  • Conduct tests, measurements, and calibrations on electrical systems and equipment to ensure they meet safety and performance standards.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and efficiency enhancements in electrical maintenance practises.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Specific skill-based qualification to level 3 or above, OR, have 5 years of field-based experience.
  • Experience with 3 phase systems/equipment.
  • 18th edition qualification.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • NVQ or equivalent in the core role.
  • Additional field-based skill qualifications.
  • 2391 Test and Inspection qualification.
  • Health & Safety First Aid (3-day course).
  • Confined Space Trained.
  • Experience working with water control assets on rivers and waterways.
