What the role will involve
Apply your engineering and technical management skills and knowledge to lead and/or contribute to the definition, development, implementation, and support of simulation systems. Work closely with engineering leadership, disciplines such as Software, Hardware and Mechanical engineering domains, and the wider stakeholder base across the business; like procurement, supply-chain, contractors, suppliers, and customers from time to time.
- Work with the team to identify hardware simulation platform needs and requirements to ensure the flight simulation software runs and interacts effectively to meet real time performance requirements.
- Ensure solutions meet time criticality and data integrity requirements of various data busses including PCI, ARINC 429, AFDX, CAN bus
- Creating requirements for specific functional elements, using either off the shelf or bespoke hardware and working with the supply chain, including PCB manufacturers to develop and test solutions.
- Evolving designs to minimise and address obsolescence.
What you’ll bring
The role of an Electronics Hardware Engineer requires the following skills:
- Practical knowledge of electronics hardware development
- Practical knowledge of programming in C, C++, Embedded C, and related programming languages
- Practical knowledge of databus protocols including PCI, ARINC 429, AFDX, CAN bus
knowledge of driving technical product development through project and/or system development lifecycles
- An aptitude for engineering problem solving
- Ability to work with a minimal level of supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers and senior management
- Able to occasionally work on customer sites for short periods
Desirable Skills and Competencies
- knowledge of working with FPGA and microcontroller firmware programming
- knowledge of Atlassian toolset (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo)
- Knowledge of standard avionics, aircraft systems and sub-systems within commercial aviation
- Knowledge of x86, PowerPC / Power Architecture, and ARM CPUs. FPGAs
- Knowledge of project management principles
- knowledge in R&D, product design, and development activities, ideally within aviation
Qualification and educational requirements:
- A first degree or equivalent in engineering, physics or a related subject
- Proven professional knowledge in a relevant engineering industry
