Software Assurance Engineer
Location: Yeovil, 3 days on site per week 
Rate: £65 p/h Umbrella
Inside IR35
Duration: 6 Months initial

The role primarily covers technical delivery for software and/or airborne electronic hardware, collectively referred to as Programmable Elements (PE), assurance activities on UK based helicopter programmes.

The role of software assurance is to provide independent technical evidence and argument for internally developed systems and supplier provided systems with PE to provide confidence that these systems have been developed to the required standards.

The day-to-day activities will include review of supplier deliverables, attendance at design reviews, production of PE assurance reports, providing SME support to other departments and planning of future PE activity in support of management.

Job Role
• DO178B Level A software testing (MCDC)
• Production of life cycle software artefact to support Software V&V
• Product certification. Also involved in
Process assurance activities.
• System verification and requirement validation.

Key Skillset
Essential:
• Extensive knowledge of DO-178B and/or DO-178C
• An appreciation of safety processes, including hazard analysis and the generation of safety cases.
• Ability to evaluate complex situations and systems and present well-reasoned recommendations based on information assimilated from a number of technical sources including documentation and expert advice.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to describe and summarize complex safety related considerations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable:
• Knowledge of DO-254.
• Knowledge of related standards such as Def Stan 00-55, Def Stan 00-56 and ARP4754A.

• Knowledge of aviation safety processes, including hazard analysis and the generation of safety cases, would be beneficial but not essential.
