Morson Talent are recruiting a Project Manager for our Aerospace and Defence client based in Radway Green, Crewe.
Rate - £35.81 + £5.21 Holiday Per Hour PAYE / £48.21 Per Hour Umbrella
Shift – 37 Hours Per week
Site – Radway Green, Crewe
Duration – 6-12 Month Contract
Role Summary
This newly created role will play a pivotal part in optimising product value, reducing costs, and enhancing profitability while mitigating supply chain risks and supporting Integrated Business Planning (IBP) goals.
Working across a multi-functional team of internal and external stakeholders the role needs excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels and disciplines. You will have the ability to demonstrate a good understanding of the wider aspects of the business and implications of problems and issues and a flexible attitude towards achieving business objectives.
Typical duties include (but are not limited to):
Lead Value Engineering Projects: Identify, manage, and execute value engineering opportunities across the product and supply chain portfolio to drive measurable cost savings.
Supplier Transition Management: Work with Procurement colleagues to develop and implement supplier switching strategies to optimise procurement, reduce costs, and improve supplier performance.
Cost Optimisation: Deliver cost savings across various areas including labour, transportation, scrap, and operational inefficiencies.
Risk Mitigation: Address and mitigate risks related to single sourcing, supply disruptions, and price volatility through proactive planning and supplier diversification.
Programme Development: Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to develop long-term programmes that support strategic cost and quality objectives.
Value Engineering Funnel: Own the value engineering funnel, ensuring a robust and well-prioritised pipeline of initiatives to support profitability improvements. Including the generation of business cases.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Procurement, Engineering, Operations, and Finance teams to align cost-saving initiatives with business objectives.
Reporting and Metrics: Track and report on project progress, cost savings achieved, and impact to the business, ensuring transparency and alignment with IBP targets.
Responsible for ensuring that accurate forward load data is derived for projects from the business toolsets.
Relationship management: Establish and maintain strong customer and supplier relationships maintaining regular communications and managing expectations.
Knowledge
Proven experience in project management, value engineering, supply chain, or procurement, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Strong track record of delivering cost reduction and process improvement initiatives.
Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
Analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
Experience managing supplier transitions and mitigating sourcing risks.
Familiarity with Integrated Business Planning (IBP) principles and practices.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Relevant degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business or a related field; project management certification is a plus
Skills
Formal training in Project Management (accredited by APM, PMI or PRINCE), with knowledge of scheduling and risk software tools (e.g. MS Project & Predict!), as well as experience of SAP
Experience in building customer relationships and achieving high levels of customer satisfaction.
Experience in managing risks and opportunities to the benefit of the projects.
Experience working as a Project Manager or Project Engineer in Manufacturing or Engineering sector
Qualifications
Degree-level qualification (engineering discipline preferred) or comparable experience in the engineering/manufacturing sector, with demonstrable Project Management delivery experience, ideally from a comparable industry (Defence).
