Purpose Statement
The Civils Project Engineer will play a vital role in supporting the Engineering Department at KAM by enhancing how Metrolink’s civil assets are maintained to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Under the guidance of the Track and Civil Engineering Manager, and in collaboration with the existing engineering team, the Civils Project Engineer will also provide specialist support to projects and act as a key liaison with the wider operational business.

Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, regulations, and industry standards.
Identify and assess the impact of projects on civils assets and their ongoing operation and maintenance.
Provide expert guidance to design and construction teams on operations and maintenance requirements.
Highlight cross-asset or operational impacts to the Project Manager as appropriate.
Review Work Package Plans, Method Statements, and associated documents for impact assessments.
Act as Lead Project Engineer as required and manage engineering change processes.
Review and respond to project documentation within agreed timescales.
Collaborate with TfGM, third parties, and internal teams to protect Metrolink assets from external works.
Review and oversee implementation of Asset Protection Agreements (APAs) with third parties.
Develop and maintain procedures for managing civils projects and third-party works (e.g., guidance documents, proposal forms).
Support wider civil engineering and asset management tasks such as writing renewal proposals or specifying structural repairs.

Timely review and feedback of project documentation.
Effective documentation management and updates within required deadlines.

Skills and Experience Required
Knowledge of civil and earthwork assets.
Previous experience in a Project Engineer, Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE), or similar role.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
Understanding and interpretation of legislation and standards related to light rail systems.
Experience working in rail or light rail environments.
Degree in a STEM discipline or equivalent engineering experience.
Incorporated Engineer status or active progress toward professional registration.
