Electrical System Team Leader

Rolls Royce SMR |
Warrington, Cheshire, England

Electrical System Team Leader
£60,000 to £70,000 + Excellent benefits
Derby, Warrington, Manchester / Hybrid

We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job this is a legacy.

We are now recruiting for an Electrical System Team Leader to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.

What we’re looking for

Provide technical leadership and expertise across the lifecycle of Electrical Systems for the SMR nuclear power plant. As the Team Leader for the Conventional Electrical Systems’ team, you’ll develop and manage a team of electrical engineers, setting the work plan and delivering the agree scope of work.

This team’s scope includes the SMR’s offsite power connection, HV and LV switchgear and distribution system, connection to the main generator set, earthing and lightning system as well as the lighting systems. For the agreed systems, the role covers the delivery of the complete design, spanning system architecture, sub-system design and equipment specification and design / selection to realise the final verified design of the power station. You’ll need to develop relationships with and work closely with the engineering teams from across the power station and applying a structured systems engineering approach to design

Key selection criteria for this role are:

Proven experience in electrical power engineering in a design function, with design and lifecycle awareness of the systems in the scope of the team required. Strong knowledge of industrial power systems, including conversion, distributions, and power generation, with practical experience desirable.

A proven record of managing the work of electrical or multi discipline designers is required for the role. Demonstration of technically reviewing and approving of design outputs from other discipline engineers would be an advantage.

Previous experience working within the nuclear industry is not essential, a proven record of working across the electrical system lifecycle. Any experience working in a design role in a regulated industry (e.g., Nuclear, Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Automotive, Oil & Gas etc.) would be advantageous.

As we strive to find the best fit for this position, we are seeking individuals with a minimum level of experience, training, and qualification. But we’ll let you in on a secret: there’s no such thing as the ‘perfect’ candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.

Qualification

Hold a degree level qualification in electrical engineering or a related subject

Pay and Benefits

We anticipate paying a salary between £60,000 to £70,000 plus:-

Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
Benefits Allowance – £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
£250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases

We’re doing work that contributes to the survival of the planet. We’re one of a handful of employers who can genuinely say we’re a strengths-based organisation – our people are here because of what makes them great, and our job is to help them make the best contribution of their careers doing work they love.

The start-up mentality coupled with our strengths-approach to people means there are opportunities to grow in ways and jobs you probably would be barred from doing in more traditional companies.

Each Rolls-Royce SMR power station will have the capacity to generate 470MW of low carbon energy, equivalent to more than 150 onshore wind turbines and enough to power a million homes. It will provide consistent baseload generation for at least 60 years, helping to support the roll out of renewable generation and overcome intermittency issues
