We are now recruiting for a Group Lead – Containment Structure to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.  

What we’re looking for

As a Group Lead – Containment Structure you will be responsible for delivering the design of the SMR Containment Structure programme. This role will be as part of the Reactor Island Installation Components team. You will manage and lead a core team responsible for the delivery of a critical path design and delivery programme with high levels of system and component interfaces. The role will involve the development and management of robust programme strategies and delivery plans, and the requirement to act as a delegated authority for key design decisions, whilst identifying and managing both technical and programme risks.

Key selection criteria for this role are:

The role will require design experience in some or all the following areas:

  • ASME Design Codes.
  • Pressure Vessels and Systems (incl. piping).
  • Manufacturing Processes (Welding, Machining, Metal Forming Techniques).
  • Design for Manufacturing of Fabricated Assemblies.
  • Design for Through-life Operation, Testing, Inspection, Repair, and replacement of Large Fabricated and Mechanical Assemblies.
  • A knowledge of Structural integrity methodology and assessment.
  • Materials behaviour and through life degradation.
  • Nuclear industry
  • A knowledge of UK regulatory expectations and safety case methodology gained in the nuclear industry.

Programme management, including:

  • Definition of a project/programme of work Development of engineering strategy
  • Delivery of programme milestones in line with agreed plans and budgets Management of risks.
  • Monitoring of progress

Leadership and management of a team, including:

  • Definition of resource needs.
  • Recruitment.
  • Pastoral care.
  • Development and management of personnel to meet individual and business objectives.

Systems engineering essentials, including:

  • Systems engineering tools and techniques (e.g. functional modelling, Function Means Analysis (FMA), decision analysis, Quality Function Deployment (QFD)), concept generation, assessment and selection.
  • Requirements development (including development of structured Requirements, Evidence, Definition and Verification (REDV) data and information) and management.

Supply chain management, including:

  • Supplier surveillance.
  • Documentation (Requests for Information, Statements of Work etc.)
  • Supplier down-selection.
  • Management of sub-contracted work packages.

Qualification

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with at least 10 years post graduate industry experience or has relevant work experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards Chartership)

Pay and Benefits

We anticipate paying a salary between £60,000 to £70,000 plus:-

  • Bonus - Performance related up to 12.5%
  • Benefits Allowance – £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package 
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days. 
  • Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care 
  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
  • £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
