Electrical Power System Engineer

Location: Derby, Warrington, Manchester / Hybrid

We are now recruiting for an Electrical Power Systems Engineer to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.

What we’re looking for

Provide technical expertise across the design of the Electrical Systems for the SMR nuclear power plant. As part of the electrical cross cutting team, you’ll develop the approach to and be responsible for developing the electrical power system model using analysis software to support continued design development. To achieve this, you’ll need to have proven experience and expertise in, as a minimum ETAP, with an understanding of other analysis and cable sizing software packages. You’ll work closely with engineers across the electrical team, as well as systems, verification and performance functions within SMR, applying a structured systems engineering approach to design.

Key selection criteria for this role are:

Experience in electrical power engineering in a design function, with a proven expertise in power system modelling tools is required for the role. As a minimum, proficient in the use of ETAP is required Knowledge of high and low voltage power systems and distributions, preferably with knowledge of power generation systems. Experience of and familiarity with other analysis and cable sizing software packages is desirable.

Experience carrying out power system analysis, such as load flow and short circuit analysis, being able to understand and evaluate the results of power system analysis is essential for the role

Previous experience working within the nuclear industry is not essential, a proven record of working across the electrical system lifecycle in a highly regulated environment (e.g. Nuclear, Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Automotive, Oil & Gas etc.) would be advantageous.

Qualification

Hold a degree level qualification in electrical engineering or a related subject

Pay and Benefits

We anticipate paying a salary between £40,000 to £50,000 plus:-

Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
Benefits Allowance – £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
£250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
