Senior Engineer (Civil/Structural)

Urenco; trusted, long-term supplier to the nuclear industry, specialising in safe, cost effective and reliable uranium enrichment services, are looking for a Senior Engineer (Civil/Structural) on a contract basis (inside IR35), to be based in Capenhurst near Chester.

Rate: £50-60 Umbrella (Inside IR35)

Job Specification
The role Senior Civil/Structural Engineer is a new role based at our Capenhurst site. You will be responsible for providing engineering services to the Infrastructure Project Delivery Programme as an Intelligent Customer (Design). Reporting to the Principal CS&A Engineer, who is appointed as the Design Authority, this role shall help ensure that the projects being delivered as part of the Infrastructure Programme, meet their regulatory obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a project and design service within the Engineering department as required, in accordance with specific standards, including:
  • Undertake feasibility studies, optioneering assessments
  • Undertake scoping and incept initial design solutions
  • Undertake scoping and detailed design calculations
  • Address and propose solutions to address green credentials/net-zero targets for systems and projects
  • Prepare relevant design documents in accordance with design procedures, safety cases and nuclear site license requirements, including;
  • Production of user requirements, scope of works documents, specifications, tender packages;
  • Production of design management plans and review of extant procedures;
  • Grading and categorisation of projects/systems – quality, hazard, environmental impact, complexity;
  • Identify constraints and statutory requirements;
  • Supervise activities of contractors/consultants, including producing appropriate specifications/scope, and the review and acceptance of design deliverable on behalf of UUK, including:
  • Review of 3rd party produced design packages
  • Acceptance of contractor design documentation
  • Day-to-day management of contractor technical delivery
  • Develop achievable project plans and schedules such that the proposed designs can be delivered in a safe and cost-effective way;
  • Provide timely and cost-effective project design solutions to address the requirements of the customers, jointly developed user requirements specifications and project plans;

Skills

  • Civil/Structural Engineering Degree;
  • Professionally qualified; chartered status is desirable.
  • Health and Safety Qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Construction);

Knowledge and Experience

  • Assessment/substantiation of existing/legacy structures;
  • Construction / demolition on a highly regulated site;
  • CDM Regulations;
  • You’ll be able to demonstrate a proven track record in Civil Engineering and construction design/controls;
  • Thorough knowledge of up-to-date industrial practices, and international standards relating to engineering and design;
  • Capable of producing high quality technical documentation including functional and technical specifications and project documentation;
  • Excellent communication, reporting, presentation, negotiation, and customer facing skills.
