Mechanical Fitter

We are recruiting for Mechanical Fitters for work within various business unit at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth.

Using your mechanical experience, you’ll remove, overhaul and install a variety of mechanical equipment which could include hydraulics, weapons, water and fuel systems and LP/HP air, among other assets. Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications, you’ll also install and align new equipment and carry out system and equipment functional tests and surveys.
If you can bring technical skills and a safe working attitude, then we can provide you with some of the most exciting engineering projects this country has to offer.

You will need the ability to read engineering drawings to interpret work instructions and be competent in the use of general workshop machinery specific to mechanical fitting.
Ideally will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships - although other relevant experience will be considered.

Essential Experience:

Removal, Installation and overhaul of Marine Mechanical Equipment with a particular focus on Propulsion Equipment, Auxiliary systems & Power Generation Equipment.

Preferable additional experience:

Experience of working within Marine Engineering
Time served within the field of Marine Engineering / Navy Environment

Qualifications required (at least one of the following):

Indentured Apprenticeship
Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with mechanical specialisation
Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification

Hours of work - 35 per week - Monday to Thursday 07:30 - 15:30, Friday 07:30 - 12:30, shift and overtime a possibility.
