JOB ROLE DESCRIPTION
Customs Support Specialist
SECTION 1 – JOB PURPOSE
Your purpose is to provide support to the Customs Controller to ensure the company adheres to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) legislation.
SECTION 2 – MAIN ACTIVITIES AND TASKS
• HM Revenue and Customs Legislation (includes changes by HMRC relating to system updates ie customs entries - Customs Declaration Service - CDS)
• SAP Global Trade Services (GTS)
• Support improvements for the duty management system
• Ensure that that the system is compliant to HM Revenue and Customs Legislation
• Ensure that all reporting to HM Revenue and Customs is compliant and timely.
• Provide support for the PVA (Postponed VAT Account) Statement checking of records (confirmation that the goods are owned) / Using a system called Sharepoint /ConnectU
• Ensure that the company is aware of any HM Revenue and Customs new legislation and manage projects resulting from these changes within the company.
• Support monthly audits of the Company’s Duty Management System to ensure internal compliance to HMRC Legislation
• Conduct internal audit programme to demonstrate process, procedure and legislative compliance to shipping processes
• Update commodity code / duty rate data provided from a 3rd Party into duty management system
• Ensure that Commodity Codes and Duty rates are correctly recorded against products
• Awareness of shipping processes for Imports and Exports ie Import Register
• Attend internal meetings eg contract launch to advise on duty management/ distribution issues
• Provide support to documentation of departmental instructions
• Maintain Monthly Exchange Rates in SAP GTS from HMRC website
SECTION 3 – KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Qualified to a degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
From an essential view
• Familiarity and competency above a basic level with the following software systems; MS Office - Excel, Powerpoint , Outlook
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Skilled at analysing information and solving problems
• Ability to manage workload and capability to organise activities according to expected deadlines and business needs.
• To have the desire to learn and adapt as the requirement arises
From an desirable view
• Familiarity of SAP4HANA, SAP Global Trade Services and Visio
• Current up to date experience within the defence industry
• In depth knowledge of HM Revenue & Customs – training will be given on areas involved
