Role Overview:
The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all aspects of cost control, commercial management, and contract administration for capital and maintenance projects. This role requires a detailed understanding of construction, engineering, and facility management principles, along with strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered within budget, on time, and according to high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation & Budget Management:
• Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for capital and maintenance projects.
• Undertake risk analysis, cost planning, and forecasting throughout project lifecycles.
Contract and Procurement Management:
• Draft, review, and manage contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and industry standards.
• Evaluate tenders, negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors, and manage the procurement process.
Financial Reporting and Cost Control:
• Monitor project expenditures, manage cash flow forecasting, and implement cost control measures.
• Prepare regular financial reports, variance analyses, and cost-benefit reviews for senior management.
Project Coordination:
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate project stages and ensure clear communication of cost-related insights.
• Provide technical support and guidance on cost implications during planning, design, and construction phases.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
• Ensure adherence to safety standards, local regulations, and industry best practices within Faslanes operational environment.
• Maintain detailed records and documentation in line with Kaefer’s quality assurance standards.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
• Act as a key interface with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships to ensure project goals are met efficiently.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Accredited by a recognized professional body (e.g., RICS or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Professional Experience:
• A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in quantity surveying within construction, engineering, or facility services sectors.
• Experience working in or with sensitive environments (such as defence or naval facilities) is an advantage.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in cost estimation software, construction management applications, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to interpret and analyse architectural and engineering drawings.
Soft Skills:
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a team, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
