Salary: c£60,000
Job purpose statement:
- To drive professional standards in Engineering & Maintenance across Northwich Manufacturing plants incorporating Sodium Bicarbonate Plant, CHP and CCU Plant.
- To take the lead or provide support on major, minor or sustenance projects and design applications.
- Provide mechanical engineering support, technical guidance, and ensure governance and adherence to the relevant legal and company standards.
- Provide a focus on driving high standards and delivering engineering excellence with unified and autonomous safety and housekeeping standards of the highest order.
- Foster strong working relationships with site maintenance and operational teams, promoting collaborative working and decision making.
- Ensure priorities and timelines are clearly defined and resources are deployed in the most efficient and effective manner in line with the business needs.
Principal accountabilities
- Ensure that all statutory and legal requirements relating to engineering design and inspection are adhered to and there is a clear understanding of them within the team.
- Champion safety and uphold high housekeeping standards.
- Provide technical guidance and instruction to ensure governance to the relevant standards required.
- Drive high standards and deliver industry best practice within both the Engineering and Maintenance functions.
- Record and document modifications to plant and processes, ensuring asset history and information is easily available and visible to the correct personnel.
- Identify technical solutions and undertake feasibility studies to identify optimum designs and provide innovative ideas to complex or difficult problems.
- Complete technical studies, surveys and reports, and prepare scopes of works and work with the procurement team to tender works and ensure best value for the business.
- Project management and support on major, minor and sustenance projects, ensuring that clear priorities and timelines are agreed, defined and met.
- Coordinate contractors and multi-disciplined teams to deliver projects in line with business needs, and within agreed timelines and budgets.
- Develop and empower less experienced members of the maintenance team and help to develop a culture of self-motivation with a strong work ethic.
- Develop and manage training and guidance documents for new and modified assets.
Minimum Knowledge requirement:
Required
- Batchelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Chartered Member of IMechE or working towards Chartership.
- Experienced in Project Management.
- Excellent communicator and team player.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to chair meetings, lead teams and plan effectively.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of applicable Engineering related legislation.
- Understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations 2015
- Experience of line management

- Knowledge and experience of mechanical plant and equipment.
- Demonstrable organisational and planning skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Capable of prioritising effectively and making high level decisions based on factual information.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Route Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques and asset management skills.
- Familiar with CMMS systems
- Advocate of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma. Ideally trained to green belt standard or above.
