We are recruiting a Steering system engineer for one of our automotive clients based in Cranfield.
You will be working for a globally recognised automotive company. This is a long-term contract role. The contract is on an ongoing basis a may run for several years.

Key Responsibilities of the Steering system engineer:

• Manage application of global design and follow the development at system / module level
• Supplier management (cost / quality and timing)
• Meeting regulation & safety performance
• Managing and reporting test validation
• Managing and reporting cost performance
• Managing and reporting part quality / reliability
• Managing and reporting adoption timing and delivery
• Technical analysis of market concerns (root cause investigation)
• Performing simulation analysis on steering systems
• Secure industry leading customer satisfaction
• Execute competitor benchmark and trend, research & analysis.
• Supporting global strategies Work within a cross functional global team (mainly Japan, Germany, France, Spain)
• Main location will be office based in Cranfield, but role can include travel to suppliers, other offices and manufacturing plants.
• Achieve cost target (piece price / VT, cost reduction)
• Achieve quality target (NEVQS, warranty)
• Achieve project KPI’s (Key performance indicators)
• Technical solutions for development / market concern
• On time design note release / delivery

Qualifications & Experience for the Steering system engineer:

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
• Aptitude to understand new technologies and systems by clear application of engineering prin-ciples and knowledge.
• Aptitude to understand new technologies and systems by clear application of engineering prin-ciples and knowledge.
• IT literate, competent user of all Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook.
Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink
• Valid driving licence for UK and European countries
• Experience of investigating and resolving software logic related concerns in an Automotive type environment.
• Good problem-solving skills with knowledge of Design Review, FTA and FMEA activities.
• Good working knowledge and practical experience of developing components/systems used in a safety related automotive environment (ISO 26262)
• Knowledge and experience of recording and analysing inter system communication via CAN is desirable.
• Knowledge of application and use of diagnostic tools and diagnostic communication is desirable.
• Knowledge of Simulation tools like CarMaker/Chassis Sim is desirable.
• Time management skills
• Previous automotive design and development experience
• Prior knowledge of Steering System, Brake Modulation and Electric Booster at a vehicle/system application level
• Prior knowledge of manufacturing processes and the development process for Steering and Brake modulation/electric booster
• Valid driving license and able to travel globally

Hours & Pay for the Steering system engineer:

• Monday to Friday
• 39 hours per week
• £30.78p/h
