Overview
Morson Talent is proud to partner with a global leader in automated solutions specializing in the design, delivery, and support of automation systems for airport baggage handling and material handling operations. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Controls Engineer to join a dynamic team supporting innovative automation projects from concept through to commissioning and client handover.

This role offers the chance to work on complex automation control systems, taking ownership of software configuration, supplier coordination, commissioning, testing, and post-delivery support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and deploy control software using established automation software libraries.
  • Lead commissioning and optimization activities for baggage handling and airport automation systems.
  • Develop and modify PLC code using Siemens TIA Portal (AWL/SCL) and Rockwell Studio 5000 (ControlLogix/GuardLogix).
  • Coordinate software deliverables with external suppliers, ensuring alignment with technical requirements and schedules.
  • Prepare automation environments for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) in collaboration with emulation teams.
  • Perform emulation and site-based commissioning to validate system functionality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system and network issues during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Produce technical documentation including specifications, interface definitions, test procedures, and commissioning reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Conduct diagnostics using tools such as TIA Portal Diagnostic Suite, RSLinx, FactoryTalk Linx, Proneta, and Wireshark.
  • Support FAT, SAT, and CAT testing and deliver training to clients and internal teams.
  • Identify and drive opportunities for system standardization and process improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

Qualifications
Technical Requirements

  • Strong experience in PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell Studio 5000).
  • Extensive field experience commissioning control systems, ideally in baggage handling or material handling environments.
  • Solid understanding of industrial network protocols (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Profibus) and related diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/HMI systems (WinCC Flexible preferred).
  • Knowledge of machine safety systems and safety PLCs is advantageous.

Education & Experience

  • Technical degree in Automation, Electronics, or a related discipline required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation) preferred.
  • Proven experience managing control system development from design through commissioning.

Additional Information
Travel: Willingness to travel 30–50% as needed, including extended on-site assignments.
Language: Italian language skills are a plus, but not required.
Work Authorization: Must have authorization to work in the United States.
Work Environment: Primarily remote, with some on-site work required standard office equipment provided.
Physical Demands: Mostly sedentary with occasional lifting during site work.
