As a Proposal Engineer, you will be part of a fast-paced, collaborative environment that values creative problem-solving and continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver tailored proposals for modular mechanical systems, helping secure new projects and drive business growth.
Role Summary:
In this position, you’ll be responsible for producing detailed and competitive bids for prefabricated plantrooms and related offsite systems. This role requires close coordination with sales, engineering, procurement, and production teams to ensure that proposals meet client expectations and reflect the company’s capabilities and commercial goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Proposal Preparation:
Analyze tender packages, technical documents, and project requirements to gain a full understanding of each opportunity.
Collaborate with internal departments to collect accurate and timely data for inclusion in proposals.
Draft comprehensive technical and commercial submissions aligned with project needs and organizational strengths.
Integrate engineering data, materials information, and drawings to substantiate the proposal content.
Ensure all submissions are timely and compliant with internal quality procedures.
Client Engagement:
Serve as the main contact for customers during the proposal stage, handling inquiries and clarifications effectively.
Attend meetings before and after bid submissions to present technical content and negotiate terms.
Foster strong client relationships to support long-term business development.
Estimating and Cost Analysis:
Prepare precise cost models, factoring in materials, labor, manufacturing, and vendor pricing.
Identify cost-effective alternatives that deliver value without compromising standards.
Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure alignment with regulatory, health & safety, and environmental standards.
Maintain clear documentation of proposal iterations, communications, and approvals.
Team Collaboration and Reporting:
Work in sync with commercial and sales teams to ensure proposals reflect strategic goals.
Share progress updates and insights with stakeholders, noting challenges and proposed solutions.
Participate in interdepartmental coordination meetings to align on timelines and deliverables.
Present summaries of bids to leadership, highlighting key elements such as risks and opportunities.
Create detailed handover documentation to support smooth project transition and execution.
Candidate Profile:
We’re looking for someone who brings:
A minimum of a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Building Services Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Solid experience in a proposal or estimation role within a manufacturing or industrial context.
A strong grasp of UK tender procedures and contract standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with CRM and estimating software.
The ability to create simple AutoCAD layouts to assist in design and costing.
A proactive, detail-oriented approach with excellent organizational skills.
Strong communication abilities for effective collaboration and reporting.
