We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Deterministic Safety and Fault Studies Engineer, to be involved in supporting the development of the Rolls-Royce SMR Power Station and the successful completion of the licensing and permitting processes.

Purpose for the Role

Facilitate the development and maintenance of deterministic analysis programs to ensure nuclear safety compliance. Support hazard identification studies and record-keeping efforts. Assist engineering teams in integrating deterministic considerations into design decisions. Ensure quality and governance standards are met for deterministic analysis submissions. Collaborate with engineering disciplines to address any gaps in design compliance with analysis requirements. Work alongside other safety disciplines for comprehensive safety assessments. Present deterministic analysis findings to support licensing endeavours.

About the Role

  • Supporting aspects of the development and maintenance of the deterministic analysis programme as part of the overall nuclear safety case delivery programme.
  • Support the hazard identification programme by planning and facilitating hazard identification studies (i.e. HAZOP), producing records, and collating identified hazards into the Hazard Log.
  • Providing support to the engineering disciplines enabling them to use deterministic considerations as input to their design decisions.
  • Understanding and applying the appropriate level of quality and governance to the deterministic analysis and any associated submissions.
  • Working with the engineering disciplines to ensure that the design meets the deterministic analysis requirements and working with them to close out any gaps.
  • Working with other E3S disciplines including probabilistic safety assessment, hazards and others as required.
  • Undertaking and presenting the deterministic analysis in support of licensing efforts.

Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. But we’ll let you in on a secret: there’s no such thing as a ‘perfect’ candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.

Also, if you are considering a career move or a sector-jump, please get in touch, we welcome applications from people with transferable skills.

  • Ability to integrate well within a project team of cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Able to obtain Security Clearance
  • Experience in the use of deterministic analysis to support the design of a Nuclear Power Plant.
  • Knowledge of PWR plant design and operation. Experience in the production of deterministic analysis documentation including hazard identification, fault schedules and nuclear safety categorisation of functions and classification of equipment.
