Lead Project ProfessionalBarrow-in-Furness District
Morson is delighted to be working in partnership with leading defence organisation BAE Systems to recruit a 7 Lead Project Professionals for an initial 18 month contract. As the role has been deemed Inside IR35, payment of either £35 Per hour + Holiday Pay PAYE or -£45 Per hour via an Umbrella Company. The role will be a combination of Remote and site based work. Please find the role description below: The individual in this role will manage a small project, or a part of a larger, more complex project, (such as a particular work package), or will support a Project Manager or Head of Project with aspects of managing a larger project. The role may be that of a Control Account Manager with specific responsibilities for the performance of particular Control Accounts as part of the project's control regime. Core Duties * Able to perform advanced project reporting & scheduling. * Able to undertake advanced problem solving typically based on previous experience. * Have a comprehensive knowledge of Business process and procedures. * Administration and general office skills including spreadsheets/ Microsoft packages. * Attend on the job training as appropriate. * Able to lead a small project or a work package of a larger project. * Able to manage the full project lifecycle to ensure that, over time, the needs of customers/users continue to be met and that financial and other benefits are achieved. * Identify, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project. Applies appropriate PM methods and tools whether predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches. Agrees project approach with stakeholders, and prepares realistic plans (including quality, risk and communications plans) and tracks activities against the project schedule, managing stakeholder involvement as appropriate. * Consolidate expertise from multiple sources, including third party experts, to provide coherent advice to further organisational objectives. Supports and promotes the development and sharing of specialist knowledge within the organisation. * This is a role for an experienced project professional with a small team and the ability to deliver with limited guidance from the Line Manager. * Deputises for the Project Manager as appropriate. Leadership Responsibilities * Accountable as a member of the Project Management team for supporting development and implementation of appropriately tailored PM practices. * May have supervisory responsibilities for up to 5 staff. * Expected to provide technical support to team members. * Accountable for ensuring one or more aspects of PM practices in the project are suitable for purpose. Long term contract roles with BAE Systems Scotstoun for Cost Engineers / Senior Project Controllers with minimum 5 years' experience in a project environment either supporting a PMO or delivery area. Our client ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK, based at Winfrith in Dorset has a requirement to expand its project management capability to support current and future growth in the submarine market. The contingent PMs will have a defence or aerospace engieneering background and will join the Submarine Systems Division which has an increasing revenue stream from products used by Navies across Europe and Asia, and with growth opportunities in both new build and refit programs around the world. Major successes have been achieved over recent years and further opportunities are being pursued in the areas of submarine sonar, signatures, communications, underwater weapons and countermeasures, towed array handling and electric actuation. The next 5 years is forecast to be an exciting and challenging period both for securing new opportunities as well as delivering systems into service that make a difference to the operator. Key Competencies Experience of successfully delivering complex technical products from initial concept formulation & design definition through to final test and acceptance into service Excellent organisational and leadership skills and experience with leading diverse teams, stakeholders and suppliers Experience of managing significant value (financial, strategic) projects to challenging timescales, budgets and requirements Domain experience in the defence business or a recognised high end technical industry Good commercial skills and awareness of relevant contractual aspects associated with project delivery Ability to effectively communicate, present and negotiate direct with key external stakeholders (Government, Navy, industry) often in overseas environments General duties Reporting to all internal and external stakeholders including travelling for face to face communications Defining the project structure, planning and WBS building on the information generated during the bid phase Definition of the Project Team that will lead the project delivery Clear definition and placement of work packages including key subcontracts required to deliver the project Ensuring appropriate risk, opportunity, security, trade controls, quality and configuration management for the project Planning, monitoring, control and update of the project including management of project Life Cycle Management gate reviews Ensuring that the contract remains up to date and consistent with the project goals and business objectives Ensuring that contract milestones are met and that cash flow is optimised Bid Management - PMs are also key contributors to bids and are required to apply the fundamental project management principles and methodology to bids including: Stakeholder management WBS, OBS and programme definition (external and internal) Customer and supplier negotiations Internal bid reviews Project management documentation Risk management approach Responsibility Responsible to the Submarine Systems Head of Delivery and Submarine Systems Head of Division in all matters relating to project delivery External to the business, the PM is responsible to the customer for successful delivery of the project The PM represents the project on behalf of the business to the customer, external partners, stakeholders and suppliers Recognising the RESTRICTED nature of the work, suitable candidates will be SC cleared or eligible for this level of clearance.
