Principal Engineer - Support Engineering (Maintenance Design)

Our client are seeking contractors for a Principal Engineer – Support Engineering (Maintenance Design), ideally with background in Cat A/BB - Nuclear Supervisor/watchkeeper.
Key Tasks:
- Support stakeholder engagement and attend collaboration working groups in support of company scope of work for maintenance design.
- Provide technical guidance and advice for the full range of the ILS discipline activities.
- Understand and be able to articulate the impact of Engineering Change on ILS deliverables.
- Provide appropriate ex-operator knowledge and input for maintenance derivation outputs.
- Conduct Methodology Audits of RCM analyses prior to formal delivery to MoD.
- Provide appropriate RCM knowledge and input for Engineering Design Reviews.
- Conduct periodic quality assurance checks of Maintenance Task Instructions (MTI) and initiate appropriate rectification activity/actions.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the RCM engineering team.
- Facilitate Technical Reviews of each MTA analysis with system SMEs.
- Conduct Internal Audits of all analyses prior to formal delivery to MoD.
- Recommend amendments to maintenance as a result of design change and maintainer feedback.
- Provide advice in the production of Maintenance Task Instructions (MTIs).
- Provide operator SQEP advice to other Support Engineering disciplines and their activities as required.
- Provide Nuclear SQEP support to the MTA team and wider Support Engineering teams.
- Reviewing of external supplier engineering deliverables relating to software.
- Review software source documentation, interpret technical information and derive written recommendations on how best to support the software product through life via the production of system level software support case reports.
- Provide reviews of LORA, MTA & MTI deliverables, identifying:
- Nuclear safety/containment interfaces.
- Specific operational conditions needed for the task to be conducted.
- Specific Base organisation skills needed for the task to be completed.
- Support Equipment requirements and applicability.
- Provide ex-RN knowledge, technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to the wider ILS floorplate.
- Support collaboration with other industry partners and act as facilitator for bespoke tasking.
- Manage and troubleshoot integration issues, coordinating closely with internal teams to devise and implement solutions.
- Utilise best practice, professional engineering judgement and initiative to undertake tasks in support of the identification and delivery of Support and Test Equipment (S&TE) in order to support the platform.
- Provide estimates for the scope of work and resources required, in order to support bids, proposal development and project planning activities for maintenance design activities.
Proven Ability / Key Skills
- Extensive level of domain knowledge over the full range of RCM activities and how they relate to ILS and Safety.
- Extensive knowledge of the MoD Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS) and Trilogy tool sets.
- Knowledge of the principles of Availability, Reliability & Maintainability (AR&M).
- Background in Cat A/BB - Nuclear Supervisor/watchkeeper.
- Knowledge of the complete engineering lifecycle and how support activities align to it, with some proven ability of operating in a number of lifecycle phases.
- Have a strong awareness of Product Safety and SHE.
- Good communication skills and be able to interact with stakeholders.
- Background as Submarine nuclear operator / maintainer essential.
- The ability to analyse complex problems.
- Understanding of JSP 935, DefStan 00-055, IEC 61508, DLF SSE GP.2.11 desirable.
