Technical Architect - R&D

And right now, we’re looking for a Technical Architect at our Gronau site.

The role supports and advises the Senior R&D Manager, CE&I with regard to the development of the Centrifuge Monitoring System (CMS), which is a high-availability system that plays a vital role in the monitoring and protection of centrifuges. The system employs a mixture of standard commercial IT equipment and bespoke signal processing hardware, together with bespoke application software.

Whilst the detail design and engineering of the system is undertaken by specialist suppliers, Urenco is responsible for specifying the requirements of the system, reviewing hardware and software designs, carrying out user acceptance tests, reviewing end-user documentation, and working with the suppliers and the customers at the sites to facilitate the handover of the system.

The successful candidate would establish strong working relationships with CMS users and specialist suppliers, and would take the technical lead in activities from minor functional enhancements to the complete installation of a system in a new or existing plant. They would need to possess or develop an understanding of the existing software and hardware, together with an appreciation of gas centrifuge technology with respect to the application of the software.

What will your day look like?

• Managing multiple work packages geared around overhauling the bespoke CMS system that Urenco use and championing the project management the development of the system to meet current requirements
• C# and C++ application management as well as management of the windows system for the CMS
• Act as intelligent customer with regard to the overall implementation of software and hardware across several plants across the multi-site group. Leverage a detailed understanding of the operation in the specialist area to identify improvement opportunities

• Building strong working relationships and understanding the needs of multiple stakeholders around the architecture of the CMS and ensuring those needs are met in the finished system. This will include building a strong working relationship with the external software developer in Germany
• Generate functional requirements documents to reflect changes to the user requirements of the system
• Manage the full project lifecycle, design, test and hand over, within allocated budget, on time and without risk

What do you need to be great at this role?
• Educated to degree level in a relevant subject
• Experience of generating and modifying source code in C++ and/or C# using Microsoft Visual Studio and an extensive knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio and C+ source code
• Experience of generating user and functional requirement specifications, test specifications and end-user documentation in English
• Strong internal and external communication skills and the ability to manage diverse stakeholders/subject matter experts who use the system
• Fluent in spoken and written German language
• Flexible in way of working and being able to work across a team which is based in several different countries
• The ability to learn and Appreciation of the operation of gas centrifuges with respect to CMS functionality
• Appreciation of digital signal processing techniques
• Experience of defining and participating in user acceptance tests of software
• Experience of developing software according to a V-model, such as GAMP 5 or similar
• Experience of working with internal customers, including operators and maintenance technicians, in order to define user requirements, provide technical support and training
• Appreciation of digital electronics techniques
• High level of ability to generate technical documents in English
