Civil Engineer - Review & Acceptance

Morson Talent are representing a leader within the UK Energy Sector who have a current requirement for a Civil Engineer (Concrete) to join their established, Joint Design Office (JDO) team. All work is associated with Europe’s largest construction/infrastructure Project in Somerset.

Site based role with hybrid availability. Contract (renewable) position – Inside IR35.

The Joint Design Office
The Joint Design Office (JDO), has been created to reinforce site-based engineering. Its primary responsibility is to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A major bene?t of the JDO is the time/cost savings for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions enabling site staff to swiftly pursue their activities.

Broad Scope
• The Civil Engineer will review and accept the changes to the design raised by the site contractor and be responsible for managing interfaces between the construction contractors and the designers.
• Responsible for the management of the site construction configuration within their specific area.
• Ensure all design and construction changes are delivered on time to meet Construction need.
• Attend readiness reviews of Design Packages released for construction as and when required by design owners.
• Work closely with the Design teams, Contractor and Construction teams to maintain technical quality responses (content / consistency / comprehensiveness / accuracy), construction programme and construction safety.

Typical Responsibilities
• The approval of design changes proposed by the contractor or designer through Request for Information, field Change Request or Non-Conformance Report.
• Support the JDO in the handover of Design Packages released for construction and initiating delegated responsibilities through this process.
• Ensure that processes comply with project quality procedures.
• Management of CDM aspects relating to the design changes during the construction period, including discharging the role of principle designer.
• Responsible for the nuclear safety acceptance of the design by carrying out surveillance on the design changes during construction.
• Safety case/golden thread: in the review and acceptance process, ensure the high-level safety case and the design have a clear golden thread to support operations.

Criteria
Essential
• BSc and/or MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Working knowledge of concrete design codes such as Eurocode 2
• Design process and design activities - preferably related to Nuclear Industry
• UK CDM regulations within a highly regulated industry.
• Experience of design with hazard and accidental safety cases.
• Delivery-oriented and ability to set action plans and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Proactive, pragmatic and adopting a practical approach to resolve issues.

Desirable
• Working knowledge of construction change procedures.
• Working in large-scale, multi-cultural industrial project, safety case architecture.
• Understanding and application of the Intelligent Customer Role.
• Understanding of Contract Management
• Commercial awareness with an understanding of the impact of change.
• Familiarity with safety case process and design substantiation
