And right now, we’re looking for a Senior Project Testing and Handover Engineer. Based at our Capenhurst site location, you’ll support the UUK technical authority for your discipline by providing professional technical input to engineering activities. To lead delivery of both major projects and smaller packages of work; producing deliverables as well as leading teams of engineers to deliver high quality, fit for purpose engineering solutions that you will then be responsible for approving.
To work independently to scope packages of work and determine appropriate deliverables and delivery routes, and to work proactively to ensure that emergent issues are appropriately managed. To take ownership of UUK assets and look to continuously improve aspects of the business within your remit. To effectively communicate detailed information related to specific work packages to a range of stakeholders and provide specialist engineering advice to the wider business.
What will your day look like?
- Producing and managing the production of engineering deliverables in accordance with specified standards, UUK design procedures, safety case and nuclear site license requirements.
- Developing, reviewing and approving achievable project plans and schedules such that the proposed packages of work can be effectively delivered to time and schedule.
- Providing routine updates on the status of deliverables.
- Approving engineering deliverables within your area of delegated authority
- Specifying and accepting activities and deliverables from contractors, to ensure work is carried out to specification, on time and compliant with UUK procedures.
- Approving deliverables within the scope of your delegated authority
- Identification of solutions to technical problems encountered on site, and ensuring these are controlled and managed to an appropriate standard
- Producing change management documentation and providing technical review of others’ change management documents ensuring the full impact of changes are considered
- Monitoring the performance and condition of assets on site and taking action where required to ensure these are appropriately managed to support continued operation in line with the site asset management plan.
- Striving to improve the performance of UUK assets through sound management and implementation of good engineering practises
- Ensuring the through life management requirements for new and / or existing assets are fully considered and implemented
- Undertaking commissioning activities when required and authorised to do so.
- Providing technical input to support delivery of work packages within and outside of E&P
- Undertaking technical investigations as required.
- Acting as Subject Matter Expert for defined areas of responsibility.
- Providing concise technical input into forums as required, and make decisions within area of expertise
- Acting as project owner for packages of work and major projects that impact the assets you have responsibility for
- Actively managing and recording CPD from on-the-job training and any external learning, in order to provide robust evidence for professional registration/membership and SQEP.
- Coaching and developing junior engineers and graduates.
What do you need to be great at this role?
- Degree in relevant discipline-specific Engineering
- Chartered member of an appropriate Engineering Institute
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a technical engineering position
- Significant Experience in delivery of design packages through all phases of their lifecycle
- Experience of supervising managing staff/agency resources
- Thorough knowledge of up-to-date industrial practices related to discipline specific engineering, including safety through design.
- Good understanding of other Engineering disciplines, technologies, plant systems and processes that are present in Urenco.
- Good understanding of international and UK standards relating to engineering and design related to discipline-specific engineering within the nuclear industry (ONR TIGs/TAGs/SAPs).
- Sound knowledge of current health and safety legislation.
- Excellent IT skills including Windows and Microsoft applications, Documentum and SAP.
- Ability to use or learn to use specialist software packages (e.g. system modelling packages).
- Capable of producing high quality technical documentation including functional and technical specifications and project documentation.
- Ability to maintain and develop own technical knowledge to ensure the best, cost effective and safe solutions are proposed and implemented.
- Ability to assess problems, feasibility and develop practical solutions.
- Skilled in exercising authority in the control of contractors and suppliers.
- Excellent communication, reporting, presentation, negotiation and customer facing skills
