Senior Contract Manager (IAC)

Our client Scottish Power Renewables are currently recruiting for a Senior Contract Manager to join their team based in Glasgow or London on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for an experienced Contracts professional who also has a knowledge of cables works and Wind energy. For more information on this role see below:

MAIN ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE. JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT
As a senior role within ScottishPower Renewables, the Senior Contract Manager is responsible for developing and managing contracts within the Offshore Business. This role will involve close collaboration with teams from Construction, Operations, Legal, Insurance, Finance, and Procurement to ensure best-in-class Contract Management.

Being part of the Inter Array Cable (IAC) Package Team and reporting to the Package Manager, the Senior Contract Manager will drive contract strategies, sourcing, negotiating and managing large offshore contracts. The individual will be accountable for identifying and mitigating contractual and commercial risks while seeking to optimize and drive the performance of the Inter Array Cable supply and installation major contract.

The individual will be working as part of a business with several global activities, which may require frequent travel to various locations in the UK and overseas. The role demands coordination with multi-disciplinary teams and teams working at different project locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Tasks for this role will include:
• To develop adequately balanced risk profiles within the EA2/1N IAC package through contract strategy and ongoing contract management.
• Implement the necessary processes and procedures required to develop the EA2/1N IAC contract.
• Project business cases are to be supported with detailed contractual assessments across the offshore installation, ports and logistics among others.
• Anticipate contractual and commercial risks, opportunities and threats to the project and implement control measures or actions.
• Maintain value adding relationships with all contractor and suppliers.
• Coordinate all legal and procurement activities for the project area.
• Management of Supply Chain strategy for the specific area of the project: o Securing sufficient manufacturing capacity in accordance with programmes and budgets.
o Devising the most economically advantageous multi-contract solutions.
o Ensuring procurement best practice and sound risk allocation principles are maintained.
o Provision for management of interfaces across several concurrent supply chain contracts in a highly risky marine environment, and
o Taking account of changes in technology or industry practices (such as installation techniques)
• Collaborating closely with the Package Manager on the East Anglia 1N/2 Offshore wind project(s).
• Managing and administering, the IAC contract in place with the supplier, including but not limited to claims, variations and contract amendments.
• Monitoring and anticipating claims made by the contractor under the agreement and assisting in developing mitigation strategies in line with the terms.
• Supporting in preparing notes of advice and commercial drafting on claims and variations.
• Making commercial recommendations to the Package Manager on commercial issues and risks arising in the IAC contract.
• Undertaking detailed contract reviews, anticipating contractual and commercial risks, opportunities and threats to the project, and implementing mitigation measures.
• Scheduling and arranging internal review meetings, negotiation meetings with the supplier, taking notes, issuing internal and/or external minutes, reporting and tracking the status of contract status, and maintaining the contract management tracker and the documentation up to date.

MAIN FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES
Procurement
Support the Package Manager in the management and delivery of all procurement and market engagement works (supported by the Contracts Management and Procurement teams) relating to the IAC packages, this shall include:
• Support the definition of the scope of works.
• Lead in the definition of the contracting strategy and the conditions of contract.
• Support the engineering and package resources in completing the preparation of technical documentation that is required for inclusion within ITT and EPCI documentation package(s).
• Assessment of the commercial compliance of the received bids in order to provide the technical recommendation into the Contractor selection process
• Responsibility for the negotiation of the Employer’s Requirements schedule(s), the Site Data schedule, the Programme, Access and Time for Completion schedule and for ensuring the sufficiency of each within the final contract agreement.
• Responsibility for the negotiation of the Contractor’s Document’s schedule(s) and for ensuring its sufficiency within the final contract agreement.
• Working with the wider business (Quality, Health & Safety, Environment, Legal, Procurement, Insurance etc.) to ensure business requirements are reflected in tenders and contracts.

EPCI contract management
Responsible for the management of EPCI Contractor, this shall include:
• Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental management of Contractors activities.
• Management of the delivery of the Contractors works in accordance with the programme.
• Contract management duties include supporting the Pacakge Manager in Contractor communications, claims, variations, value engineering, invoice approval and claim Management.
• Working with the Contractor to take advantage of optimisation / cost reduction / safety.

EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
In this role, you will lead and coordinate internal approval processes, work closely with various departments such as legal, procurement, insurance, risk, and treasury. Effective communication and strong relationship-building skills will be essential to successfully interface with these key stakeholders.

DIMENSIONS
Reports to the Package Manager within the project organisation with a functional reporting line to the Principal Contract Manager (corporate discipline lead).

EDUCATION
Degree in relevant engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience.

EXPERIENCE
We are seeking highly motivated individuals with exceptional negotiation and communication skills, who can work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams across the organization. Candidates will have offshore wind experience, familiarity with management approaches in the offshore environment, and cultural awareness.

To be successful in this role, you should have:
• A degree and professional qualification in relevant engineering disciplines or commercially orientated qualification.
• Experience as project manager, project engineer or contract manager, within renewables sector, for a minimum of 10 years.
• Experience in contract management, within offshore business preferably in the supply and installation of cables and associated offshore operations, for a minimum of 5 years.
• The ability to manage your own performance, with a significant focus on delivery and an ability to balance a varied and challenging workload, while producing highquality results in demanding timeframes.
• Fluent in English, both verbally and written.
• A good understanding of wind farm construction activities and the contractual implications.
• IT literacy, with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other project management software. • Flexibility to travel.

LANGUAGES
The project has an international team of employees and the working language is English. Candidates need to be fluent in English both spoken and written (full professional proficiency).

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Working knowledge and understanding of: o UK and European Health and Safety legislation relevant to marine operations. o DNV standards for offshore wind.
o Construction planning, Estimations & Risk Management.
o Commercial awareness (incl. FIDIC contracts).
Skills:
o Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
o Management of interfaces of multidisciplinary teams spread across multiple locations.
o Ability to implement quality assurance and environmental processes.
