We are recruiting for experienced welders to carry out welding for ship repair work based at Devonport dockyard in Plymouth.

This is an integral role for ensuring the serviceability of warships and systems through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi–trade teams.

This will include structural alterations and repairs on board ships.

Building structural modules from engineering drawings and technical specifications, you’ll be able to align and prepare weld joints and weld structural seams to a specified weld procedure. You’ll also carry out surveys and pre-refit examinations of bulkheads and Marine structural systems.

You’ll have the ability to read engineering drawings and interpret work instructions and be proficient in the use of general workshop machinery and hand tools such as the use of grinders, guillotines and band saws. You will be competent with the weld process Flux-core (in mainly carbon steel and stainless Quality tested at either Lloyds or EN287) and have the ability to use basic gouge and edge preparation through grinding.

Would be advantageous if you have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships. Other relevant experience will be considered.

This role is initially for 6 months to start as soon as possible.

36 standard hours a week - Monday to Thursday 07:30 - 15:45 & Friday 07:30 - 13:30, Overtime is a possibly for this role.

Local 0 – 35 Miles;

PAYE; £15.43ph Std, £20.84ph O/T, 
UMB-PAYE: £19.19ph Std, £26.88ph O/T, 

National 36 – 80 Miles:

PAYE; £19.43ph Std, £26.24ph O/T, 
UMB-PAYE: £24.36ph Std, £33.84ph O/T, 

National 81 – 450 Miles:

PAYE; £20.43ph Std, £27.59ph O/T, 
UMB-PAYE: £25.64ph Std, £35.57ph O/T, 

National 451 + Miles:

PAYE; £21.43ph Std, £28.94ph O/T, 
UMB-PAYE: £26.93ph Std, £37.31ph O/T,

Shift work is a possibility for this role and you will 25% hours uplift of the first 12 weeks and thereafter, 38.7% for back shift work & 50% for weekend back shift & night shift.
