Morson Talent are working closely with one of our leading Defence clients Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land Ltd. (RBSL Ltd.) recruiting a Trials Engineer to join their well established team in Telford.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
RBSL will deliver the Challenger 2 Life Extension Program (CR2 LEP) which will provide the British Army with a state of the art, world beating Main Battle Tank: The Challenger 3. This new tank will need to be tested, qualified and proved fit for purpose, and this is the work of the Trials Team. RBSL are recruiting a Trials Engineer to play a key role within this team supporting the planning, test and qualification of the tanks protection systems. The successful candidate will work alongside the Survivability and Project Teams to initially plan, and subsequently deliver, the testing of these systems for the Challenger 3 Tank.

The successful candidate will be expected to take a key role in planning of trials, working with test facilities, conducting test activities and ensuring the safe completion of sub-system tests, vehicle integration, safety and system proving trials. The work will include preparing documents such as detailed supplier scopes of work, trials specifications, risk assessments and trial reports as well as specifying and operating appropriate instrumentation.

Some testing will be conducted in a factory environment but most testing will be conducted on the actual tanks or representative rigs, in various locations including firing ranges.

The role is based from our Telford site although the candidate should expect significant amounts of travel to various locations around the UK and abroad including both civilian and military test sites. The role requires the individual to be capable of operating independently when away from home base and represent RBSL in a safe and professional manner when dealing directly with individuals from other organisations, such as British Army, or the Ministry of Defence.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with engineering domains to develop and define trial requirements. Providing trials subject matter expertise to support domain engineers in requirement verification plans.
  • The review of existing trial activities to support the identification for data read across and re use.
  • Creation of supplier scopes of work and Detailed Test Plans based on trials requirements. Reporting on trials results in Trials Reports. Supporting the generation of wider Trials Management Plans.
  • Data Management using the DOORS database.
  • Engaging with test facilities to ensure trial requirements are achievable, developing technical scopes of work and working closely with procurement in order contract required facilities.
  • Support to the Trials Readiness Review including the preparation of review material and support to the reviews.
  • Working closely with domain engineers to develop and support instrumentation plans and data acquisition systems.
  • Support accurate recording of trials incidents using the Data Recording and Corrective Action System, including generating incident reports and providing support to incident sentencing committees.
  • Ensuring the safety of the trials in accordance with the RBSL Health & Safety Policy
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including the British Army.
  • Working as part of a deployed team or as an individual to safely deliver accurate, repeatable test / trial activities. Supporting the Trials Manager in overseeing the team.
  • Conducting and / or reviewing analysis of results.


WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
This role will be well suited for someone already working in the Defence Industry or looking to move in to that domain, who has systems engineering experience in verification and validation.

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline is desirable, if not then the equivalent, engineering and test experience is essential.
  • Experience in verification and validation activities or systems engineering is essential. Preferably in the UK Military Land Domain.
  • The ability to write technical documentation and reports, for example statements of work, test specifications, test plans or trial reports will be required.
  • Must hold a Full Clean UK Drivers Licence.
  • Proficient use of the standard Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
  • Familiarity with operating DOORS software is desirable, but training can be provided
  • Familiarity with the specification, installation and running of data acquisition equipment and an understanding of instrumentation principles is desirable.
  • An understanding of UK Legislation and standards associated with Armoured Vehicle testing is desirable.
