Are you a natural problem solver who has the desire to play an integral part in delivering sonar projects with a market leader in their field?

ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK develop, supply and support cutting-edge maritime technology for customers worldwide. Based in Winfrith, Dorset, they work closely with the UK Royal Navy to create products which protect lives at sea. Due to continued success we are currently looking to expand the team and recruit a Transducer Design Specialist.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in projects that will cover the full engineering life cycle, from novel research, through to productisation and consideration of through life supportability.

You will apply innovation to propose and deliver technical solutions to design and research challenges, making informed technical decisions and recommendations supported by robust scientific and engineering evidence.

You will work as the technical lead for sonar product development and research projects, working closely with System Design Authorities, Product Manager and Project Managers to identify solutions and ensuring delivery, meeting time, quality and budget constraints.

What we are looking for in you:

You will have specialist knowledge of sonar transducer and array design and a proven track record of developing and implementing designs into successful sonar systems. Having expertise in transduction methods, materials, their application and implementation in sonar systems, you should have one or more of the following:

  • Understanding and an ability to model the physical transduction processes and interactions and interpret this into robust solutions
  • Understanding of how to practically realise transducer designs into transducer prototypes and products
  • Understanding of how to test and characterise transducer performance including practical experience

Educated to degree level in physics, mathematics, engineering, materials science or similar, you should be self-motivated with excellent communication skills that will enable you to communicate technical findings and concepts to a range of stakeholders.

Experience in the underwater defence and security domain along with experience of technology maturation and the product lifecycle is desirable but by no means essential.
