Morson are currently seeking a Training Equipment Support Apprenticeship to work on site at RNAS Yeovilton.

Senior Lead Technician (SLT) Synthetic Training Equipment (STE)

STE / IT Manager

JOB PURPOSE
To undertake an advanced apprenticeship as a Mechatronic Maintenance Technician with an additional qualification of basic aviation practices, leading to a nationally recognised qualification and accreditation to support the requirements of a world-leading military aircraft simulation and engineering training centre located at RNAS Yeovilton.

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND TASKS

  • Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff.
  • To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently or with a team, to undertake tasks as instructed and increasing overall contribution to the Merlin Commando Training Facility, Contract Logistic Support (CLS) team.
  • To undertake and successfully complete suitable college courses throughout the training period. Achieving both the academic grades and practical skills in order to entitle yearly progression leading to the award of a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician.
  • Learning and understanding the importance of Health and Safety within the work place.
  • To develop the hand skills to carry out maintenance on training devices, construct or modify apparatus and instruments from verbal instructions and technical drawings, for the Merlin Commando Training Facility, research, teaching and student projects, to a high degree of precision.
  • To learn how to maintain workshop equipment and to keep it in good repair.
  • Learn and then contribute to the management of spares, tools, and consumables for the Training Equipment.
  • To maintain a logbook over the duration of the apprenticeship period, recording projects that have been undertaken and the skills learned.
  • To maintain and to ensure general good housekeeping of the workplace and training areas.
  • To maintain a smart appearance and to act in a professional manner at all times.
  • To perform any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5 GCSEs to include Maths at Grade B and English at Grade C minimum.
  • Driving licence.
  • An ability to work to demanding deadlines, in a customer facing role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Determination to contribute to the development of a ground breaking Training Service, to achieve the highest quality and standards. Service, to achieve the highest quality and standards.
  • Demonstrate an ability to learn.
  • Flexible to take direction and willing to contribute to improve processes.
  • PC literacy with an excellent understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) applications.
