Position Overview:

The role will be based within the Waterfront Department, working within Workshop facilities or afloat areas for repair and the manufacture of projects for MOD and other military and commercial customers. Safely and professionally deliver planned and reactive maintenance on a variety of equipment within the key performance indicator criteria while adhering to the working time directive

*Candidates MUST have completed an appropriate trade apprenticeship or naval equivalent qualifications, any candidates without these qualifications WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED**


  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, overhaul and repair on a variety of electrical equipment machinery and systems
  • Removal, overhaul, repair, installation and testing of electrical equipment, machinery and systems
  • Complete works as detailed by Team Leader
  • Read/Interpret Electrical Drawings, MDS and Guidance information
  • Carry out Electrical Testing on 12v, 24v and 240v systems
  • Execute various crimping techniques
  • Soldering
  • Terminate multiple types of cable
  • Carry out electrical installation, maintenance and defect rectification in accordance with the project schedules to meet customer quality expectations
  • Operation of common workshop plant/hand tooling, electrical tools and common range electrical test equipment
  • Installation, testing and maintenance of communications equipment such as VHF radios, Intercom, GPS and AIS
  • Knowledge of mechanical installations and maintenance would be an advantage
  • Fault diagnosis and defect rectification
  • Carry out detailed inspections and be fully conversant in the use of all measuring equipment
  • Use of calibrating measurement equipment
  • Operation of common workshop plant/hand tooling; e.g.: Fixed drills, grinders, jigsaws, torque wrenches, presses, cleaning tanks etc.
  • Report all accidents, incidents and near misses via the appropriate reporting tool
  • Ensure all tools and equipment that are used are suitable, fit for purpose and in date for any inspection required
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers, managing their expectations and needs


  • Have completed an appropriate trade apprenticeship or naval equivalent qualifications
  • Will have qualification, experience and knowledge in electrical theory and principles - minimal 17th edition training
  • Be competent in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment
  • Have experience and knowledge in carrying out electrical maintenance
  • Have qualification, experience and knowledge in electrical testing
  • A logical, analytical approach to pragmatic and effective problem solving
  • To be able to work under pressure and be able to schedule, coordinate and to maintain efficiency
  • Have a clear understanding of the Naval Support environment and customer base
  • Have a clear understanding of the Maritime services strategy
  • An ability to seek alternatives / innovative solutions to resolve issues
  • To demonstrate the importance of meeting time, cost and quality requirements by always striving to achieve and exceed them
