Primary Purpose of Role

* Contribute to development projects for space propulsion systems, from Phase B to Phase C/D.
* Perform thermal analysis activities to verify thermal designs for space hardware and ground support equipment.
* Support iterations of the thermal design with analysis updates.
* Support the qualification phase with predictions and test procedures for testing.
* Evaluate equipment qualification status versus Thermal requirements
* Generate Thermal Models, results, documentation and presentations.In the frame of the development of several new space missions, the Thermal Engineer will aid in Thermal Analysis as part of a multi-disciplinery team.
* The Thermal Engineer will support and lead in Thermal analysis and verification activities.
* For other advanced projects (phase A/B), he/she will bring Thermal support for the architecture trade off.
* Phase C/D activities will include qualification test planning, set up, execution and results assessment.
Principal Relationships
Relationships will be required to be built and maintained with the following principals:

* Mechanical/Thermal Architect
* Propulsion Architect
* Project Manager
* Design Engineer
* Mechanical Engineer
* Equipment Technical Manager
* Equipment Project Manager and design team
* Local network of suppliers

Key Responsibilities and tasks

* Perform hand calculations and generate initial TMMs to perform initial sizing of thermal hardware.
* Provide feedback and inputs to the mechanical and thermal design team.
* Generate preliminary and detailed TMMs of systems, subsystems and parts.
* Determine orbital cases to analyse
* Perform solutions and postprocess the results.
* Model checking, and peer review of other's models.
* Generate and document deliverable models.
* Support the development and test plan/qualification sequence for the thermal aspects.
* Contribute to the thermal interface definition.
* Support the identification of the key drivers for the product competitiveness related to thermal aspects.
* Support thermal design iterations and optimisation
* Lead Thermal design activities for equipment projects subsystems in cooperation with other entities.
* For equipment designed, lead the Thermal design, establish the test plan/qualification sequence for the mechanical aspects.
* Define the interfaces, in direct relation with the Program Management Office and other subsystems (Avionics, Thermal System)
* Identify the key drivers for the product competitiveness related to mechanical thermal aspects.
* Develop UK skill in Thermal/Mechanical/Structural area.
Key Performance Indicators
KPIs for the role will be specifically developed with the role holder however these will cover:

* On-time execution of thermal Analysis activities
* On-time execution of documentation and reports
* Quality of reporting

Experience and Skills

* Experience of Thermal analysis using Esatan for:
o Generating Thermal models
o Setting up thermal cases
o Solving, postprocessing and evaluating the results.
* Experience with producing relevant documents and presenting at reviews.
* Experience of working in a multi-discipline team environment
* Experience in technical proposal preparation would be an asset
* Experience in the Space domain is essentialMechanical design with associated standard 3D CAD design software such as Solid Works, CATIA or PTC Creo.
o Production of 3D CAD assembly models, as well as 2 D drawings for manufacture, assembly and interface control.
* Experience with producing relevant documents and presenting at reviews.
* Structural analysis using Nastran Patran or another FEA code.
o Production of FEMs, including defeaturing, meshing and checking.
o Setting up, running and assessing static structural, dynamic and thermoelastic analyses.
* Experience of working in a multi-discipline team environment
* Customer, partners, suppliers interface
* Experience in Space domain
