Morson are recruiting for a leading Defence client based in Crawley. This is likely to be a long-term contract.
Primary Purpose of the role
A Technical Publications Author whose primary role is to work within a TLSE team. Undertake Technical Publications / Authoring activities to customers requirements within own competence without day to day guidance or supervision in a professional manner, in accordance with relevant specifications, standards and Thales (Chorus II) and documentation processes.
Core tasks and responsibilities
Make Technical Publications / Authoring decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
Fulfil the operating, maintenance and support requirements agreed with the customer. The information must be clearly and unambiguously presented, in a manner appropriate to the level of skill, experience and technical understanding of the users and maintainers of the equipment. It thus contributes to the customer's ultimate objective of improving the success rate of maintenance, and reducing the lifecycle cost of ownership of equipment.
Close liaison with all aspects of engineering through the interaction with engineering personnel / interrogation of contributory engineering database. It will involve the research and origination of new and amended textual data for a wide range of equipment and maintenance activities.
Compile data, to a variety of national / international /civil / military specifications, is produced and manipulated to create physical/electronic deliverables.
Provide help and direction to less experienced team members.
Manage own elements of Technical Publications /Authoring work package.
Take responsibility for contributing to team planning, risk management, quality and HSE.
Set targets for and manage own development with line manager. Seek & share good practice & knowledge to continuously improve own practices.
Project Specific tasks and responsibilities
The role may additionally have need for Project-specific skills and experience as agreed with Project and Functional Management.

The jobholder has dual reporting lines in a matrix organisation. For project performance the reporting line is through to the Project Manager, or as otherwise determined. For functional aspects the reporting line is through to the Technical Publications Function Manager.
The jobholder is required to develop networks & build key relationships to obtain 'buy-in' and cooperation in order to achieve objectives and fulfil responsibilities. Interfaces and communication shall be with all stakeholders and include, but are not limited to:
