Job summary:

A highly motivated System Engineer/Administrator who has the ability understand, support and work in a team responsible for the support of Ground Control Systems. The role covers many different aspects; system administration, build of servers and laptops, installation, configuration, integration and verification of the ground segment control products- from the mission planning; Spacecraft control Functions, Flight dynamics along with Centralised monitor and control systems.

The candidate must have customer facing abilities and will report to the head of User Ground Systems Manager. They will liaise with project management, Configuration Management, product assurance and engineering.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Installation, configuration and integration of software
  • Write installation and technical procedures where required
  • Support AIV in requirements interpretation to develop Test Cases and procedures against requirements
  • Carry out all forms of installation and testing (Integration, Regression, negative verification, validation and acceptance) along with documentation of results
  • Support Security function in terms of rectifying vulnerabilities
  • Support the delivery and acceptance of software from the suppliers;
  • Anomaly Investigation and Resolution
  • Support all Review boards;
  • Technical review of software subsystems;
  • Technical analysis of system design issues;
  • Interaction with the customer and suppliers;
  • Participate in peer-reviews
  • Analyse and resolve technical and application problems
  • The candidate must be able to demonstrate experience of working within a complex software development

Essential requirements:

  • System Administration, System engineering, Software engineering, networking experience, formal approach to documentation, pro-active problem-solving approach
  • Linux, Windows

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience of satellite flight operations applications (e.g. mission control systems, mission planning systems etc)
  • Understanding of software Cyber Security aspects
  • Experience of Bash/Perl/Python scripting, Linux system administration, DNS, LDAP. Windows Server administration. Experience in building / administrating vmware
  • Deployment tools, Eg Puppet, Foreman etc
  • Experience in using containers, Docker, Kubernetes etc
