Systems Engineer
Winfrith, near Dorchester - 6 month contract - £55 p/h Ltd

We are looking to recruit a Systems Engineering consultant to work for our defence client across a range of maritime projects. The client are going through a busy period of growth and need to recruit to manage the increased workload. Based in Winfrith, near Dorchester, you will initially be contracted for a period of 6 months but there is scope to extend beyond this timeframe.

Knowledge, skills and personal qualities required
* Good sound knowledge and understanding of systems engineering principles and their application to multi-disciplinary (mechanical, electrical, electronic and software design principles) engineering projects
* Knowledge and experience of INCOSE Systems Engineering practice and principles
* Familiarity with Defence Standards (particularly DEF-STAN and MIL-STD)
* Educated to degree or equivalent level in an engineering, or related discipline
* Ability to solve complex problems and to critically review results and methods to ensure quality
* Ability to expand knowledge into new domain areas, and work across domains and see the bigger picture
* Strong communication skills, including delivery of presentations
* Good written skills particularly technical report writing, ability to communicate with expert and non-expert stakeholders
* Preferably have an understanding of military systems, in particular maritime systems. Alternatively, we will consider other highly regulated industries including aerospace, nuclear, or rail.
* Proven ability with UML / SysML
* Enterprise Architect / MODAF / DODAF / TOGAF or other systems engineering modelling tool would be desirable
* Proven ability undertaking requirements management using DOORS
* Knowledge of IBM Rational Quality Manager (RQM) or IBM Rational Publishing Engine (RPE) would be desirable

Knowledge of one or more of the following domain areas would prove useful but is not a pre-requisite:
* Maritime Combat Management Systems, integration of equipment and software
* Unmanned systems
* Command and Control (C2) Systems
* Acoustics / Sonar Processing

Key accountabilities
* Expanding on the customer technical specification and developing this into a suite of requirements
* Developing a UML or SysML model for the assigned project
* Responsible for delivering key system engineering processes across the product lifecycle
* Working closely with the project teams including the System Design Authority, Engineering Manager and Team Engineers
* Use expertise and knowledge to make a strong contribution to bids and projects

Additional information
Please note all applicants must be capable of gaining a UK MOD Security Clearance to SC level. The successful candidate will be able to start under a baseline check with the SC pending, so a live SC is not a pre-requisite, but you must be capable of gaining one.
