Purpose of role: Provide independent architecting advice and guidance on Combat System Architectures. Provide systems engineering and technical support to combat system architecting activities. Support direction towards service based architectures while evolving the architecture to include functional and non-functional changes. Ensuring scope and timescales are adhered to. Outputs/Deliverables: Support for generation of capability based SRDs and associated updates to the NCSISS managed CSAM model. Be part of the architecting team deriving changes to CSAM as well as using the method to establish and define capability based requirements for inclusion in the SRDs. Conduct workshops and formal meetings with various stakeholders to derive complete combat system level understanding on the impact of capability insertion Bring to the attention of the Engineering Manager major deviations from agreed tasking/activity at the earliest opportunity, including slippage or deadlines likely to be missed. Produce and maintain CSAM and SRDs. Tasks and Activities: 1.Participate in the Combat System architecting activities to develop and maintain Combat System Architecting Models. 2.Build effective relationships with the customer and internal stakeholders to deepen understanding of requirements/problems and raise timely awareness of change. 3.Conduct workshops and formal meetings capturing the context and impact of new capability insertions to the extent that it is possible to map to CSAM. 4.Conduct analysis in support of modelling activities to establish implications on service based architecture vision and capture output. 5.Understand customer requirements to allow generation of SRD requirement text for inclusion in DOORS. 6.Take ownership of tasking when allocated as Task/Team lead and drive through to conclusion utilising allocated resource appropriately. 7.Keep abreast of CS advances and major system changes in order to remain current and competent. 8.Identify suitable analysis training needs as new capabilities are identified. 9.Provide succinct and accurate and timely reports as requested by the Customer. 10.Participate in meetings, reviews and workshops as required by the Customer and external stakeholders. 11.Apply engineering governance to daily activities and seek to improve processes through establishment of best practice. 12.Apply local good practice to daily work through utilisation of the NCSISS Shared Records area and keeping good track of documentation amendments. 13.Keep the Engineering Manager informed of task progress and delays. Technical Skills: Technical experience combat systems and architecting methods/toolsets. Ability to understand complex demands from user, customer and align these to operational use, to be able to see patterns and opportunities for re-use or convergence of concepts. Knowledge of Combat System lifecycles through to trials activities and post trials analysis. Knowledge of current and future Combat System Architectures. Knowledge of System Integration in Surface Ships. Knowledge of relevant engineering standards and codes of practice. Overview of MODAF and modelling concepts. Industry Knowledge: Good understanding: Equipments and engineering processes, and analysis methods used for modelling Military systems. Requirements engineering methods and practice. Good configuration management understanding essential. Desirable MODAF and system modelling concepts and tools (including System Architect and DOORS) Awareness: RN Command Systems, T23, T45, or QEC, T26 and OPVs knowledge. Knowledge of Windchill, Team Point applications (desirable not essential). Understanding: The need to accurately capture and maintain data generated for use by the NCSISS team and the tools and techniques used to achieve this.
