Software Engineer - Signal Processing

Location: Weymouth
Duration: 6 months

Job Profile

We seek a software engineer to join a team developing a new system running in a high-performance virtualised computing environment at our client's site in Weymouth. A system based up on Service Oriented Architecture using industry standard communications, middleware and implemented to maximise extensibility, openness and long-term maintainability. The system will contain a significant real-time Signal Processing element; the successful candidate will need a good basic understanding of DSP.

The work will review the processing architecture requirements for the system, survey potential candidate framework standards and/or libraries to implement the architecture; assess the potential risks of using the implementation technologies and provide quantitative evidence, where possible; propose candidate extensible user interface implementation methods including thick and thin clients and web-based approaches.

Essential Skills

  • Design and specification of software architectures and frameworks for real time systems
  • Signal Processing
  • Mathematical Modelling
  • Knowledge of HCI development
  • Matlab and optionally, Simulink
  • Communication middleware standards
  • UML (ideally Enterprise Architect)

Desirable Skills

Some or all of the below would be advantageous:

  • Defence systems procurement lifecycle processes
  • Requirements elicitation for defence software applications
  • Definition of software toolkits for third party development
  • Knowledge of virtualisation using VMware
  • The use of standard Microsoft Office applications (word, visio, excel) effectively
  • Service Oriented Architectures
  • Web services
  • Network design for distributed systems
  • Knowledge of OMG Data Distribution Service (DDS) application development
  • Ethernet communications protocols
  • Linux and Windows Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of network switch configuration
  • Audio streaming technologies
