Senior Weight Controller/ Engineer - Weight Engineering
Scope: Engineering Delivery - Production Design.
Purpose of role:
The primary role of the Senior Weight control Engineer is to lead and guide Engineers in a single project in weight control at all stages of a products lifecycle. Experience in ship design and ship construction is required along with knowledge of ship systems and equipment. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required for working in multi-disciplined groups at all levels. Experience in weight control processes and systems are essential, and an understanding of project controls is desirable.
Key Technical Skills
A basic understanding of Naval Architecture.
Good Interpersonal and communication skills
Possesses in-depth knowledge pertaining to all weight disciplines.
Familiar with CAD packages such as FORAN and AutoCAD and the ability to interrogate them for weight information.
Able to use EXCEL and WORD at an advanced level.
The ability to use and understand a Weight Data base.
5+ Years' experience in engineering or a defence or related industry
Good working experiences in more than one phase of the engineering lifecycle, with sufficient experience of the total lifecycle to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life engineering issues
Typically HNC/HND qualified, as there is no Weight qualification a minimum of 5 years' experience is required.
Top 6 Major Tasks and Activities:
Reviewing and checking of data compiled by Weight Engineers.
Processing weight information for Projects using appropriate processes and tools.
Calculating weights and centres information
Carry out investigations into operational problems in conjunction with the Principle Engineer.
Checking of SC, ECR's and therefore impact on weight.
Monitoring Weights and centres throughout the development of a project.
Additional Key Accountabilities:
For accurate and reliable assessment
To work in assigned areas under the direction of a principle weights engineer highlighting any issues which threaten delivery to plan.
To work in assigned areas under the direction of a principle weights engineer delivering work to agreed time, cost, and quality requirements
Supervision and mentoring of less experienced team members.
Key Outputs/Deliverables: Business Unit
The following deliverables are based on single projects only.
Produce and check engineering packages based on Block/Unit launch and Undocking data.
Implementation of all policies, procedures and processes applicable to Weight Control.
Preparation and supply of information completed to MOD standard NES 163 or alternative classification in support of customer.
