Senior Temporary Works Engineer

Morson are exclusively working with Sir Robert McAlpine currently seeking an experienced Senior Temporary Works Engineer to support a number of exciting projects from their newly refurbished offices in Hemel Hempstead.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a small team composed of graduate engineers and CAD technicians to deliver well considered, quality design solutions to areas such as: tower crane bases, scaffolds, major ground retention, gantries and cabin structures. They will use their engineering, programming, practical and technical knowledge to deliver to strict deadlines design solutions that meet our contractual obligations, taking into account: * Current legislation * Standards and codes of practice * Construction methodology and buildability * Quality * Procurement and construction programmes Applicants will need to demonstrate skills and knowledge in the following: * Appropriate design analysis software to suit discipline and project requirements * Steelwork and concrete frame design * Relevant Building Regulations (A, B, K & M) * Microsoft office suite - particularly Outlook, Excel & Word * Basic ability to use Autocad &/or REVIT or similar appropriate software * Working knowledge of soil structure interaction - substructure/geotechnical design * Team working and communication Applicants must be motivated with a keen interest in structural, civil or geotechnical engineering and an appreciation of architecture. An interest in temporary works design would be considered desirable. You will ideally be a chartered engineer with either ICE, IStructE or Institution of Geologists as appropriate, with two years' post-qualification experience.

Involvement will be on Phase 2 of the Paradise Circus development in Birmingham. This is the construction of a new building over the main A38 tunnel. The main challenges are producing all the AIP's to gain agreement from Birmingham City Council, for plant to cross over the tunnel, for the installation of the very heavy transition trusses across the tunnel structures and the design of the tower crane bases. Then the involvement will be the design or checking of the temporary works involved in achieving these things.
