Excellent understanding of powered plant characteristics and associated risks, particularly items of plant designed specifically to operate in the railway environment, and of the risk controls available to be deployed to mitigate or control those risks.
# Excellent understanding of the legislative, regulatory, and wider industry standards framework governing plant, and the application of that framework particularly to items of plant designed specifically to operate in the railway environment.
# Good understanding of the requirements of other engineering disciplines in respect of track plant (particularly rolling stock engineering).
# Good understanding of techniques for risk analysis and their application to the design and operation of plant.
# Understanding of RAMs management with respect to plant.

Substantial experience of:
- specification, design review, commissioning, and acceptance of rail industry plant
- assessment of existing items of plant for use in the railway environment
- analysis of plant risks and definition of appropriate risk controls through design, maintenance, and operational processes
- ongoing development of standards regime(s) appropriate to rail industry plant
* Experience of:
- operation of plant approval process
- assurance regimes intended to confirm the proper contro, of ongoing plant asset risk.

Purpose:
* Provide specialist track plant engineering input and support to:
- track plant and depot Infrastructure programme(s)
- track maintenance, track renewal, and plant management functions, including Transplant.
* Operate plant approval processes where appropriate.
* Provide expert engineering guidance and support to other track engineers, asset managers, operational delivery managers, and to interfacing disciplines in respect of the design, acceptance, and safe use of track plant and of general plant in the railway environment.
Special Accountabilities:
* Professional head for Track Plant Engineering with delegated authority from Professional Head of Permanent Way for that sub discipline
