Purpose of role:
This Design has been evolved from the parent GCS design through a number of Product Changes that have been selected to achieve compliance with Mandatory/Threshold requirements and some optional changes to achieve more points in the bid.
This role is to provide engineering support to the shock design of the platform in readiness for delivery of the design. The objective of the shock design is to reduce the ship's vulnerability to underwater explosion from threats such as mines and torpedoes.
Key Technical Skills
- Specialist engineering knowledge and experience in the shock design and shock qualification of equipment for naval surface ships or submarines.
- Technical knowledge of naval platform design and integration for shock, including structural and spatial integration.
- Working knowledge of UK MoD Document MAP 01-470 (formerly BR8470) and MAP 01-473.
- Technical knowledge of modelling techniques for shock design assessment, particularly time domain finite element analysis (FEA) and fluid structure interaction.
- Experience of engineering design processes on a complex programmeIndustry Knowledge:
- 5+ years' experience of Naval ship / submarine shock engineering design and analysis
- Experience of complex engineering projects
- Customer/end user focus/experience as well as customer procurementQualifications:
- Degree qualified in Engineering or Physics related discipline.
- Experience in Platform engineering roles.
- Attendance of the SSG Shock Course is preferred
Tasks and Activities:
- Assessing supplier's equipment delivery, considering:
- design for shock resilience,
- proposed shock qualification methods,
- shock qualification results,
- The aim is to ensure supplier's delivery will be compliant with the shock requirements.
- Proving design and shock qualification guidance to suppliers in support of their aim to achieve shock qualification
- Shock engineering design support and assessment to the spatial and structural integration of equipment and distributed systems throughout the platform
- Support and undertake shock analysis activities, as required to achieve shock qualification of equipment and equipment integration to the platform. This includes guidance both internal to the project and to suppliers.
- Support to shock qualification activities being undertaken by the project.
- Provide specialist knowledge while attending working groups and Integrated Product Teams (IPG's) comprised of ISI, LM, and other suppliers.Key Accountabilities:
- Determining areas requiring technical investigation and acting to deliver.
- Leading on shock related project activities being addressed across project areas with the programme.
- Management of sub-contracted shock engineering work.Outputs/Deliverables
- Support to wholeship and equipment shock requirement compliance
- Support to achieve compliance with the Shock Policy and shock design requirements.
- Shock modelling, analysis and integration into the whole ship design.Functional Skills
