Scope: Engineering processes and Product Maturity

Purpose of role:
To undertake systems engineering and product maturity related activities within the Hunter Class project team, in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements.

Key Technical Skills
Possesses an in-depth knowledge of Type 26 product maturity process
Able to perform robust analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements based on experience
Possesses knowledge of wholeship engineering processes, e.g. Engineering Quality Issue (EQI) process

Key Leadership/People Management Skills :
Good people management skills and experienced in a multi- disciplined engineering environment.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to management and peers.
Displays flexibility through response to radical changes

Company/Industry Knowledge
Significant experience in engineering or a defence or related industry
Good working experiences in more than one phase of the LCM, with sufficient experience of the total LCM to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life engineering issues

Degree in Engineering or equivalent
Meet the requirements for registration as Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council and preferably be a member of a relevant Professional Body Top 6 Major Tasks and Activities:
Carry out relatively complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
Manage the Engineering Lifecycle, through co-ordinating Design Reviews, Assurance Reviews, Zonal Reviews and designating / implementing Maturity Management
Participate fully in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need.
Participate fully in process confirmations with respect to assigned areas and identify process and toolset improvements to improve/maintain required data quality and design integrity.
Act as the main point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives.
Support the activities which underwrite the Design Assurance Strategy, Design Resilience and protect the integrity of the Design.

Keep up to date in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices), and supply technical support and expertise to others as required.
Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development.
Manage assigned budgets and lead, develop and motivate assigned employees to ensure they are aware of and capable of delivering their accountabilities.
Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.

Designation and roll out of appropriate Engineering process in accordance with Project Lifecycle phase.
Co-ordination of diagrams and drawings supporting Design and assessment tasks, specific to own discipline.
